I have purchased thread from discountembroiderysupply.com. A $30 dollar order ships for free. They have a great buy on Isacord, but I don't remember offhand the Aurifil price - they do have it.

I buy my aurafil threads from fabric.com- reasonable prices, good color selection- and free shipping at the $35 level- it's like getting one+ spool free when you don't have to pay shipping

I've used nancyrinkdesigns.com in the past. Didn't know fabric.com had it, too.

Sue did indeed refund shipping amt immediately....price and service can't be beat! Thanks for the info...I would have just passed her online store up.....webpage is a bit discombobulated, and my attention span on the computer is pretty short!

I really like Aurifil but haven't found cones anywhere so I usually buy cones from Superior Thread.

I love aurifil...but I'm a little confused...when do you use 40 wt or 50 wt? I see aurifil Mako 50/2 on the one in my sewing machine, but I also have Select 40/2 which looks like it is stronger or even might have a coating on it. Currently I am piecing an Irish Chain with the 50/2....should I be using the Select spool? I also hand piece, but use the 50/2 for that. I'm the kind that just picks up a spool of thread and uses it in my machine. However, I just had my baby cleaned and oiled, etc, for a pretty penny (I bought my Pfaff in 1986) and I want to keep thread fuzz down ... So what size should I be using to machine piece? I'm needing to buy some more thread and want to get a good deal....my lqs sells the 50/2 for $10 each, plus tax, of course!

I use 50wt 2 ply on top and 60 wt or higher in the bobbin for piecing. At Tristan's the Genziana Cotton Mako is the same thread as Aruifil.

For big cones of white: http://www.tristan.bc.ca/cart/produc...7&cat=7&page=1
For a hug cone of 80 wt Aurifil Black: http://www.tristan.bc.ca/cart/produc...1&cat=7&page=2

The Genziana spools and big cones have more color options. Here:http://www.tristan.bc.ca/cart/produc...&cat=49&page=1 and here:

Aurifil size 12 wt is like embroidery thread. 40wt is a little thicker then the 50 wt and shows up when fmq. You can't beat the price of the door crasher, Sylvia's choice and Grab bag prices.

I heard that whatever weight is on top should be used in the bobbin...did I misunderstand?
