Default Online Fabric Stores

I'm looking to buy wide backing online at a good price. Do you buy online? I'm afraid of getting poor quality. Would you ever use good quality muslin on the back of a quilt? I'm making this for a friend who wants to keep the price down. Thanks for your help!

I started out using muslin but it will show all of your quilting mistakes. I like busy prints that hide any mistakes I make when quilting by machine. I love to shop at Fabric Shack. They have low cost shipping in the USA and have numerous fabrics on sale. I buy most of my fabrics online but I stick to stores that have a good reputation.

You just missed a one-day-only sale on wide backings from Connecting Threads. There was a good variety of prints and I took advantage of the low price, knowing their products are always good quality. Just checked their website and backings are their regular price, but their regular prices are excellent (so is their customer service) and it's worth a look.

I buy almost exclusively from connecting threads.
Never had a bad purchase though the colour might have been a shade different than I expected.

Online stores sell the same quality brands that you find in quilt stores. If you recognize the manufacturer, you won't get poor quality. Many people use muslin on the backs of quilts. It is a personal choice.

I love Christain Lane Fatbacks for wide backings-they have remnant pieces that are lots of different sizes- wonderful prices too!!

I've used good quality muslin for a back or two in the past. The backings I've purchased online from Fabric.com and Hancock of Paducah and have all seemed to be of good quality. I always order at least a half yard more than I need as I've noticed these backings will shrink quite a bit so don't want to be cut short at the end of quilting without a way out. Sometimes I'll use the leftover backing for my binding too.

90% of my backing is Kona Premium muslin!! I buy from Beverly's and a very good price and fast shipment. I also use it for background all the time.

I buy from Fabric.com, Beverly's, Connecting Thread and have never had a problem or concern about any of the fabrics. I accidentally bought a knit fabric from Fabric.com instead of quilting cotton (all I saw was the 100% cotton) and they took it back with a full refund.
