I am curious on these Feather Weights...
I really like the scroll faceplates as opposed to the straight line faceplates...
Can anyone tell me if there is a certain time period that these were each made? What is the significance to them?
I have tried looking for info and haven't found much.

A FW makes beautiful spaced stright stitches that the newer machines do not make. They are a smaller size and lighter weight than the newer machines which makes them easier to carry.

The first egyptian scroll faceplates were made in 1933.
They changed the scroll to the straited face plate in the early 1947/48. I believe it was a cost cutting measure for the change.

I'm pretty much a "keep it original" type of girl.. but if you find a great deal on a FW with a straight face plate that you can't walk away from... you could buy a scroll face plate on ebay (or elsewhere) to put on it purely for decorative reasons.

I'd keep it original, myself. If I wanted a scroll plate, I'd buy an older machine. Besides, as I understand it, the earlier wiring is actually safer-the 1947 to @1955 have aluminum wiring which is brittle-I'm having mine replaced.
