I pinned it all and I am pillow casing it if that's the right term. Omg this is heavy I weighted it. It's about 5lbs. When I machine quilt it nothing fancy I will need help. But I had to come up with away for me to take the weight off of it. So I took my sin broken crib rail from old crib and put it across from my hobby table and sitting on my flip up ironing board attached to my desk to hold quilt as I see. It work making it easier.

I'm glad you started this thread, as I came across an old blanket recently and was wondering about using it in a quilt. I was a bit bothered about how well it will wash - seeing the post about shrinkage - I think I'll put it in the washing machine first and see what happens!

Maxway sells them at a wonderful price. I use them in my quilt too. The kids love how warm they are.

My brother gets them for me at no charge. I will be making at least 6 more blanks for camping and using them. But will measure first lol.

Measuring first is almost always a good idea!

It's hard to make 1000 square inches cover 1200 square inches!

Yea I learned my lessons. The next set of blankets will match the wool blankets.

What if you made it as a duvet cover? That way you could just remove the outside and wash it without washing the wool

I found a wool blanket at WalMart for $5.00. Was planning on using it as batting some time. At that price you could purchase one, cut amount you need to fill in your missing parts, sew the two together and have a very warm blanket.

Is that one of those Red Cross emergency blankets?? If it is it will not work. They wash apart into giant globs of lint balls and the quilt is only good for the dog house after washing. I was glad I did not use any favorite fabrics for the one I did.I got heavy blankets for camping quilts cheap at the 2nd hand stores. These have all been washed and there is no shrinkage to worry about
