Either of the lighter center fabrics work. I like the way the upper right block looks, though. Would go with that configuration if it was me.

Beautiful blocks!!! Just switch the 2 on the bottom and you'll have both alternating light and dark in the center... The matching size house of each block will be alternated, too.

I like the light center, for some reason the dark makes me think of a houseboat.

Thank You, Friends! We need more contrast. Light house with dark door and window, and vice versa. And we'll make the centers light.

Yes, Bearisgray, you're right. We're also going to make it a stand-alone quilt with a border that says, "North, South, East or West, Home is the Place I Love the Best." Then you can add "est. 1984"-- or whenever your family was established.

Light centers...see the houses better, but I suggest also a lighter color for door and window, they seem to get list in these.....
