Default opinions requested, purple batik quilt borders

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, I haven't been on the board for a few months, but I have been busy. Last fall, I requested scraps of purple batiks and the response from the quilters on this board was awesome. Think I have enough to do 2 purple quilts. And the grands will love that, think they all love purple. Anyway, the blocks are set on an off white background, and have the same for the borders. I have gotten 4 blocks done, and laid them out on Friday, and thought that is really dull. So, today, when I looked at it again, I still had the same impression, so I laid out scrappy strips of purple and my husband agrees that the blocks show up better. So now I am coming to more experts for their opinions. Please let me know what you think.

Now this next one is with the purple borders.

I like it without the scrappy purple strips......think it takes away from the intricate quilt designs.....pretty tho'

I like the purple frame around the blocks. It seems to bring out more of the colors in your block designs. That will be really pretty when finished.

I like the purple borders, but think it would look best this way if there was a narrow cream border inside and then the purple.

ITA ... just use the same background fabric as you are using, to let the coloured designs float inside the purple sashings.

We're probably not going to be much help because we all have different views. It's probably the same with your grands. I liked it a lot without the purple sashing, but agree that having a light border before the purple sashing would float your wonderful blocks. My first thought was, Boy, that's a lot of work, but I guess a 3 strip sashing of light, purple, light wouldn't be so hard.

Love the blocks. Do you fmq? you could do some wonderful quilting if there were no sashing. I like how the blocks show up with no distraction with out the sashing. But you are seeing in person which makes such a difference.
