I have my strips cut. Now---do you pick your strips randomly when you put them together, or do you pick them in a particular order when you sew them together. Just wanted to know.

There are some gorgeous quilts where the strips were randomly sewn together and other very beautiful quilts that involved intricate fabric placement.

I don't like random placement. I have found I have to lay out the strips and move them around a little. No rules. Just do what pleases you!

I prefer the randomness of a jelly roll. The less I have to think about it the happier I am.

Random ... I never used to like random, but since I tried it a couple times and it worked out, now I think it's the way to go!

I'm working on a strip quilt. I have all the strips in a basket. I look for a color I like but I dont put too much thought into it. Here is a tutorial on the quilt I'm doing. It's turning out nice.

i used some recently in making tube blocks and picked light and dark to give some character.

I have tried it both ways, and I have to say I really like the way the random ones come out. Really, there is no right or wrong way.
