Frustrated with pinning (I can never seem to get all the puckers out), I took the advice found on this site and decided to give hand-basting a try instead (and I thought pinning took a long time!). I have just begun, using the great video that Sharon Schamber has on youtube. But it just occurred to me: I am planning to machine quilt. Aren't I going to run into a problem when I start machine quilting all over these basting threads?

I use water soluble basting thread when I thread baste. It saves me time so it's worth buying. Mostly I pin baste using Pinmoors. http://www.pinmoor.com/

i use the 505 basting spray. much easier than any of those other methods and no puckers!

I used the 505 spray a couple times and I think it is great! No pinning, no fussing.

I use Sharon Schamber's method also--it does take a while but the results are MUCH better--and I can do it all on my cutting table--not the floor!!
If, as you are quilting one area, you snip the basting threads in that small area and pull them out as you go (the other basting stitches will still hold) there should be no problem with left-over threads!

I prefer to pin. If you can go to a recreation center or library with tables you can push together it is so much easier. Also, put a small marble under the sandwich and roll it around to where you are pinning. That will help the pin slide through the sandwich.

So many great ideas on this thread. I had not seen the Pinmoor product before. I may have to try that!
