As I was growing up, my mother always kept her scissors in her treadle sewing machine drawer. Daddy knew that. She did buy new pairs as he would ruin them but in those days I am sure they weren't expensive like they are now. Anyway, daddy is now 87 and mother 85, both in a nursing home together. But daddy went in first and one day as mother was going through some things at home she found her oldest two pairs of scissors. My brother took them to a guy in business for himself that sharpens knives and scissors and he cleaned them up and we are now using those two pairs of antique scissors. One is a 7 inch Crane, with the outline of two cranes standing on the ground together, beak to beak. I am now putting those scissors to use!

On a side note - a friend of mine got tired of her husband using her good scissors so she bought a bunch of suitcase padlocks. She puts the padlock on the handles so he can't open them to cut anything and the key is on a chain around her neck. Pretty clever idea.
That is funny!

Me too. I'll bet you can't get more than 10 feet away from a pair of scissors in my house. We have all kinds of scissors too, from Ginghers and Dovos to those funky Chinese scissors and even a pair of those things that cut pennies in half. Hubby knows he can use the orange or pink handled scissors that are in the sewing room to cut any fabric he needs cut.

One of the 2 men in my life used my Gingher shears to cut wire with and disavowed all knowledge of how that mishap occurred. I think they were shocked that I could tell something had caused a nick in the blade.

Very funny. My husband is trained to only use the scissors that are in the kitchen drawer. He knows otherwise I'll chase him down and punish him. Same goes with the good knives.

All my sewing scissors have FABRIC written in permanent black marker, Others say paper, or kitchen. the ones that say nothing can be used by anybody for anything. All my children, their spouses, my siblings and my grandchildren KNOW they will be in BIG time trouble if they ever use the FABRIC scissors
