I've inherited a wonderful old treadle machine, and wonder if there are any folks out there who do quilting on them now? I first learned to sew on a treadle when I was a child.... many long years ago!

I had one...lost to ex-husband. it was from his side and I was gifted it with the proviso that I only kept it if I kept him... I bought myself one in an antique store that is gorgeous but rarely use...it is in a place of honor in my house.

I haven't tried quilting on it, but pieced an entire quilt top and a vintage apron. Much fun.

Please go to the vintage sewing machine shop in the virtual section and you can learn a lot about old treadle machines. Glenn

I have one in a treadle but have several treadle heads. I originally had a Red Eye but replaced the head with a more modern 201. I am still learning to treadle and have not made a quilt on it yet. The Red Eye head is just sitting for display right now in my studio.

Here it is set up with the Red Eye in it.

I do a high percentage of my sewing on a Singer treadle. I ONLY piece on a treadle. I like to sew really slow when I'm piecing, and a treadle gives me great control over the speed.

That's what I'll try when I get a chance again. I like to make little doll size quilts from vintage or repro fabrics. A wonderful friend just gave me tons of wonderful early scraps and I just want to get right to it... BUT I just acquired a really big antique doll and Kewpie collection to sell for a friend, so that'll keep me busy for the next few months.. Meanwhile, my heart yearns to get going on another little quilt..

Glenn, is that virtual place somewhere on this quilting board? I can't find it... or do I need to google for it?
