Default Paper Piecing Pattern help needed!

I am looking for a pattern to make friendship braids using jelly rolls. All of the ones I've found are too small or you have to trim the edges, losing quite a bit of fabric. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find one?

I haven't seen a paper pieced braid pattern. Have you tried making it without paper? They are very easy to do. Try a sample with some scraps before you dive into your jelly roll.

I do suggest starching the fabric though. When you trim them, you're dealing with biased edges.

so as not to have to trim those edges....use a chisel shape and edges will come out straight......see Accucut chisel die for shape........size is 3x6 and it makes great shape.....

With paper piecing you always lose fabric - part of the nature of it, you can control how much you have to cut off by having the shapes close in size to the piece you need- does that make sense ?

I don't think it matters whether you paper piece this one or not. The nature of the design causes you waste some fabric. The only way that I can figure out how to make it without wasting fabric is to use hand-dyes or batiks for the strips so you can flip the fabric over to make the mirror image. I would also starch, starch, starch if I made it this way because all those edges are going to be on the bias. Most people probably would be better off marking the cut line, sewing the row together or sashing strip on and then cutting off the excess to control all that bias.
