Post Pattern help please

I have drawn the attached pattern on graph paper (finished block sizes) but after cutting the fabric and laying it out, something doesn't look right. Doesn't appear lined up correctly... maybe I am not square? I have only been quilting for a year and typically don't make my own patterns. Did I draw the pattern wrong? Maybe it was my cutting assumptions? Can someone help me to know where I went wrong.

Cutting wise, I added the standard 1/2 inch so I could have 1/4 in seams. Thus, finished blocks indicating 2 x 2 would be 2.5 x 2.5 cutting wise. Same for the strips 1 x 10 finished strip would be 1.5 x 10.5 current wise. Same throughout the pattern. Goal was a stacked square baby quilt.

Your measurements look fine to me. When pieces are laid out it will look out of proportion, but if you have cut each piece the correct size, all will fall into place when sewn together. I would begin sewing at the middle, then you can measure each section as you go. Looking forward to showing us when done.

Sometimes when we lay out stuff it looks a bit funky. Weird stuff happens with that disappearing seam allowance. So double check your cut sizes that you included the seam allowance and go ahead and start putting segments like you indicate with the dotted lines.

I think you are going to come out just fine and good for you for graphing it out!

You have extra seam allowances that will come out of your rows. One row has fewer seams than the next. When you get them all stitched you should be fine

You might want to check your 1/4" seam. This pattern has a lot of pieces and
if you are slightly off in your seam allowance the blocks won't match.
Here's how to check your 1/4" seam.

I was looking at the pattern and did not see the 1/4" seam allowance on each of the pieces. This could effect the finished quilt size. Best of luck it looks like a beautiful pattern.

She said she added the seam allowance when she cut the pieces.

AJMOM, I think you will be fine, I agree with the others, the raw pieces laid out won't match up because the seam allowances are throwing it off. This is a good thing, this means you cut them correctly. Be sure to post progress pictures, I can't wait to see how it looks!

Default Thank you all

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement, they boosted my confidence and I am happy to report the quilt pieced together just fine. Looking forward to finishing it in time for my grandson’s arrival in July.
