I have been asked by the preacher of our church to make a banner for the church. I have searched the web and found only patterns that sell for $24.99. I would like to find something a little less expensive. I am not good at making up a pattern so I need something to guide me. Do any of you know of a site that may help me? I appreciate any help you might be able to give. Jodi from East Texas

You might try going to a craft store and looking at their clip art books and alphabet books. You could probably find free clip art sights. I got books a few years ago to do projects with my students. I used an opaque projector to trace the images I wanted to use and then let them do the painting. I don't know why it wouldn't work for applique. More work, of course. Are you wanting a quilted banner or one on canvas or muslin?

Don't know exactly what kind of banner you want. Words or pictures, but coloring books and clip art make might be a place to start. Also check your library they ususally a book on how to. Becky

Do you have a season in mind or will it be up all the time? This is exciting for you and a great compliment. The library is a good place to start. Childrens coloring books, expecially the ones from Christian bookstores should have some good pictures and/or ideas.
We were lucky when we did our church quilt. We had an architecht's sketch for the church and found lots of the other things for the surrounding blocks on the internet. ie St Claire, ST FRancis to name a few.
Good luck and be sure to post pictures.

Thanks for the ideas. I have a problem because I live in a small community and it is 60 miles to Tyler where they have craft stores. I really need a source on the internet.

I am located south/west of Kilgore. It's a city of 1,228 people. We are 10 miles south of Palestine. The only store in Palestine to get quilting supplies is naturally Walmart. In order for me to get a better quality fabric we have to go 60 miles to Tyler or 30 miles to Fairfield. You can see why I use the Internet so much. Where are you located now?

Jodi,
There are Bible School and home schooling sites all over the internet. I planned the vacation Bible schools for our church and every year I had them make a banner depicting the verse of the week.

http://www.scriptureunion.org.uk/light/

http://www.christianarea.com/

Those are just two of the many many listed online. Go to either, get your "message", get the dimensions of the banner you want. Then PM me and I'll help you figure out yardage and trims, and how to get the words printed out with your computer.

This past spring I was charged with making the Scouting Camp Chaplain his own stoles for services. I can help, it worked for him. I'll be glad to help you.

Hugs,

mimisharon

Go to Kim Graham's site. She has Bible blocks and patterns. We made a raffle quilt for our Church using her patterns and they loved it!
