Blocking a Quilt
Many years ago, a quilter friend of mine told me she blocks her finished quilts and they ALWAYS lay or hang flat. Can someone tell me more about how to block a quilt? Thank you.

I never had to block a quilt even with being in competition. I was careful not to over quilt (suppressing the batting flat) and made sure the quilt was pieced accurately laying flat when I pinned it. I do NOT miss quilting for other people (should have take pictures of some of these quilts) and the quilts they expected me to quilt so they came out perfect.

Blocking a quilt can help but it isn't a miracle worker. Cut and piece accurately, square up your quilt before adding binding. If I am competing with a quilt, I wash it and pop it in the dryer until damp. I spread a clean white sheet on my spare room carpet. I straight pin the quilt to the carpet stretching it as needed and give it a couple of days to dry. Make sure to use rust proof pins!
