unfinished business

Does anyone have a simple place mat pattern? I know I should be able to design one myself but I am more of a quilt technecian than designer. :oops:

Mine: make some kind of simple 9.5" block (or in that range). Add rectangular borders to get it to placemat size.

Or - start with a fussy cut rectangle of a cool print. Add borders.

I did these pretty fast and they were easy. I traced the shape on freezer paper,found the center and drew a rectangle then drew 2 inch retangels all around making a log cabin. I number each one so I wouldn't get out of sequence with the colors. I thought they turned out pretty good. Here is the link to the pictures.

You can also make a 12 inch block and put 3 inch boder on the sides and it makes a nice size placemat 12" by 18" finished. Marge

Here's a simple one I've used in a pinch:

cut 1 13 1/2" x 15 1/2" rectangle of main fabric
cut 2 2 1/2" x 13 1/2" strips of contrasting fabric
cut 1 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" backing fabric
cut 1 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" batting

Sew a contrasting strip to each end of rectangle piece.
Layer top, back, and batting, sew around edges, leaving a 4" opening. Trim and turn. Slip stitch opening closed and quilt as desired. Easy, peasy!! :thumbup:
