I am computer illiterate. I am lucky if I can upload a picture at all. If I have to try and figure out what size it is, forget it. I have only put maybe 5 pictures on the board since I've been here, but I hope they weren't too big. Maybe if my son comes to town, he can show me how to figure it out. I have to be shown, not read the words in a text. I don't understand it that way. Just like in quilting...I need pictures to go along with the words. I am very visual. Sorry if I screwed up anybody's time. I have a quilt I'm getting Monday that I want to post a picture of, so if you see my name and don't have lots of time on your computer, don't look at it. I will put up maybe three pictures. It's jcrow. So look out for me.

If size is a problem, physically limit the size people can upload. A simple "your photo is too large" statement will let a person know.

I took offense at the "plain laziness" comment. It's a matter of priorities. I have too much going on in my life, resizing photos isn't high on my list. I set my camera for the lowest setting when I plan to post online.

I'm sorry. I did not intend to make anyone hesitate to participate in this wonderful group. Please don't stop posting pictures of your work; I know you worked hard on it and want to share.

But sometimes, the companies that enable all this technology (the makers of tablets, iphones, digital cameras, etc.) do not inform their users of the side-effects of some of the activities. I've worked in the computer networking industry for many years; guess maybe I'm a little over-sensitive. And, because I live out in the boondocks, I have to be aware of the amount of data I access on the internet.

It's good that you brought it up. I don't know anything about data usage fees and such. I only access from home or work. I've heard horror stories about how expensive it can be for those using those other things. Reminders are good.

I resize everything I post anywhere on the Internet to be 1 mb or less. You can check the size of your picture by right-clicking onit, then selecting "properties" or simply hovering over the picture. It will say something like 2.5 mb (too big) or 975 kb (just right). 1024 kb is 1 mb.

I hope I have resized all my photos. Is there any way to go back and check the size of our photos and resize them if needed?

That's a pretty harsh statement! What's easy for one person may not be, for another . . . and it has NOTHING to do with laziness. Some of us have and are comfortable with photo editing programs; for us, re-sizing is simple. Not everyone has that advantage and calling those people lazy, is just plain mean.

You can check the size, by hovering your cursor over the photo. However, it must be re-sized, before you upload/post it.

When I come across a photo that's way too large to load quickly, I simply skip it. I don't have limited data, just limited patience.

I'm not a lazy person, I'm not computer illiterate, I work on a computer daily with the programs my office uses, none of them though involves uploading pictures. But a month or 2 ago I followed someone's suggestions to use Picasa to load pictures. I looked at and tried to follow the instructions with picasa, for more than an hour and could not get it to load. Previously I had tried with my computers file, and sometimes it would upload and other times it didn't. Uploading pictures is not something I have mastered. Sometimes I don't have the time to try. I was unaware there was a lesson on it on youtube either. Maybe tomorrow I'll try looking at that.

Thanks Cathy, this is the first time I have ever seen this discussed. Definitely makes sense. I will work hard on remembering to put in smaller photos, I usually just select the larger web size in my photo editor but I think it might be a bit big so I will try the smaller sized one
