Acckkk ... I know this is probably an easy thing to figure out, but I haven't been able to, at least not with any degree of confidence. I have a pattern that calls for several of the colors, not in yardage, but "ten 10-inch squares." How many 10-inch squares are there in a yard of fabric? Thanks in advance. Help me keep the rest of my hair! lol

It will depend on the useable width (i.e. after removing the selvage). Assuming
you have a useable width of 40" then you can have 12 x 10" squares.
4 in width (40"/10"= 4) and 3 in length (36"/10" = 3.6).

If my fabric is 36 inches long and 22 inches wide folded, I would get 12 -10 inch squares with a little left over on the length. If I got 1 yard and 1/4, I could get an extra 4 more squares. As posted, it depends on the folded width of your fabric.

Yes, 4 in the 40 WOF and 3 in the length. You can get 16 blocks if you get if you buy 41 inches of fabric instead of a yard which is 36 inches.

And don't forget that you will lose some width due to the seam allowances.

Yes, I come up with 12 squares. You only need 30" in length so if you are buying fabric, you can purchase 7/8 of a yard.
