I would go with the black. I have learned the hard way that reds and blacks are not always the same when you buy them online so you have to be careful about matching the colors. Details can add so much more to a quilt but sometimes it's better to stay with what's safe!

This quilt is gorgeous, by the way!

I would use both. Cut them into 8 inch strips and join on the bias. It'll give it a sort of barber pole effect.

It is a beautiful quilt.
I can't imagine what you could do with a black and red quilt to make it OUT THERE! unless you put purple with it or something <g>.
Red and black is quite a statement on its own and cuddling under it will be a glorious experience.
I cannot add any advice to either color ... both are good.

You need to find a black/red stripe and cut it so that it's piano key style. That would look waaaaaaaaaay cool with this quilt I think.

By the way, LOOOOVE the quilt. Let me know if it needs a home...

Yeah...I was thinking if you want "out there" a bright lime green would do it.

I think the combintation of black/red is a good option...a bit different from the traditional.

A couple decades ago, my brother married a gal who was "different" in many ways. She was a pretty good sculpture when she worked at it - - an artist type, I suppose you would say.
Her preferred colors were black and red. At the time, it raised eyebrows around the homestead ... but when you see how she put it together, it really was impressive.
I was commissioned to make a quilt with a black background. I had shown the people the quilt I intended to make; a red/white and blue Victory quilt.
With trepidation, I worked on the quilt the way the daughter wanted it to be ... and, SURPRISE! It was impressive.
I suppose all I am trying to say is "out there" may well be the colorway of two decades from now <g>
having said all of that ... I would REALLY have to rethink that lime green choice! LOL

Thank You everyone!
I had the thought at one point in time to use a very HOT PINK fabric for the binding! or there was a time that she bought YARDS of green (like highway worker fluorescent reflective green) faux fur almost like shag carpet! I had to make her a jacket type thing out of it! I thought about using some bright green, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it! although she would probably just love it! lol

As far as black fabric. I don't think I like it to much! I don't like quilting with it. It picks up and you can see every piece of anything that get within ten feet of it! I am glad it is going to her hosue and she will be the one responsible for keeping it clean! Is that wrong of me?

I think I would go with a solid black or red. Stripes or a mix would be too much of a good thing -- in my humble opinion.

I would do black along two sides and red along the other two.
