For craigslist they want too much! If you're going to spend that kind of money I would consult a dealer and even consider a used one that has been traded in and they may offer a warranty on it. Just my opinion.

Janome all the way. I started with a Janome but upgraded to the 6600 new for $1750.00. I bought it from a dealer in town. I looked at Pfaff's but was steered away from them because I was told that the newer ones are not as reliable as the older machines. Something about the company being bought out so many years ago. Anyway, very happy with my 6600, especially the large harp space which bodes well for quilting and the accu-feed system. Good Luck!

These prices are too high! I would go to a dealer who might have received some good trade-ins and with whom there will be customer service. You will never get that from Craigs List. I have the Janome and love it. Because of my great experience with the Pfaff7550 I bought the Pfaff quilt expressions 4.0 and have never taken it out of the box because I have read all the negative reviews of it that are all over the internet. That purchase was my most expensive mistake.

I've had both....Janome wins hands down....Pfaff is going the way of Singer, no longer German made and cheaper insides...just my .02.

Do you have either dealer nearby? That would be a factor. I agree with seemstome, I'd check with dealers to see if there is a new machine for that price.

I got my Pfaff Exp 3.0 from a dealer for $1000 sold "as new" with all the extra feet, the warranty, free classes, etc. I LOVE Pfaff's. You might check out some dealers for trade-ins.

I second and third the recommendation to go to a dealer for purchase. You'll get a warranty, help with the machine and most of all, it will have been serviced before being sold to you. You'll still get a decent price - don't be afraid to haggle - but you'll have peace of mind in case something goes wrong. Plus you'll have the opportunity to really try them out before purchasing.

I love Craigslist and Ebay, but our tendency is to panic about a deal getting away from us and we often rush into a purchase because of it.

Good luck.

I would go with Pfaff. They where selling the Smarter by Pfaff for $1000.00 awhile back it has 9" throat and dual feed.
