Smile Portable Quilting

Hi Everyone,
I live on the "wet coast" of Canada and at this time of year I need some sun. We are off for two months to Mexico and wonder what suggestions you have for taking some "portable quilting" with me. I will not have access to a sewing machine and will not have a lot of room to pack cloth!

Take something small like the Grandmother Flower Garden that you can hand stitch?

Have fun and be safe.

You could do something like english paper piecing (grandmothers flower garden type of thing) have a look a Jinny Beyer's web site http://www.jinnybeyer.com/ as she is a hand piecer so her patterns should work, or something like tumbling blocks or I did this wallhanging for my son, this is entirely hand pieced http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t163579.html

grandma's flower garden, tumbling blocks, or cathedral windows are all enjoyable (travel) projects that you can do the prep work ahead of time then only need a few supplies with you- sewing kit with needles, thread, small embroidery scissors- templates (for the first 2) and zip locks of fabrics.
there are others-
visit 'Paperpieces.com' and browse their catalog & gallery for ideas, information and supplies- and enjoy your sunshine!

whatever you take, just cut it all out before you go so you don't have to hassle with quite so many things.... I have one of these
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/p...RODID=prd49261
small cases ...inside is a rotary cutter, a 1" x 6" ruler, mech. pencil, thimble, needle case, marking pencil, ballpoint, seam ripper, and bobbins with beige, white and black thread on them...i have a 4 x 6 small cutting mat and with that and the little case, i can do almost anything by hand... just fill plenty of bobbins and you're all set...

You could take a yoyo maker (the larger one)and some 4-1/2" squares, small scissors, thread and a needle. But that might get boring for 2 mos. Maybe take a couple small projects. Have fun in the sun. We had 80 degree weather here today. I wished it were colder.

I was going to suggest tumbling blocks as well with the EPP method. Very easy and very portable as long as you do all your prep work ahead.
