I finger press my seams until I get my blocks made, and then I press the blocks. I probably do it that way cause I have to run to the utility room to use the iron. No room in my sewing room.

I use your method...getting up and moving around keeps my body from stiffening up, esp the knees. I would probably burn myself if iron was close by...KLUTZ that I am.

I also press all seams, have an adjustable ironing board next to my sewing table.

I usually chain piece, trim, and then get up to iron. Works for me. I have tried to lower my ironing board and put it on the side of my sewing table so I don't have to get up, but I find I need to move or I get stiff.

At our last guild retreat, I did notice someone had covered a TV tray table with a few layers of batting to use as an ironing station next to her. Looked like a good idea.

I usually chain and then press after each step. In winter my ironing board is in another room so I have to get up and move around.

Same here, same reason.
ditto! I need all the exercise I can get! Hate to exercise. Love to quilt and pressing is part of quilting, sooooooo there's my exercise for the day! Did I rationalize that enough?

Me too! getting old is nasty! also there has been discussions about not pressing as you go but I have found that my intersections are not as accurate if I do not press. Also if you do not press as you go then it is really hard to press correctly after blocks are sewed together.

Speaking of seams do you press open or to the side? I find open works best for me. Do you leave your iron on all the time? I turn mine way down while I sew just turn it up when I press (across the room.)

I dont skimp or skip the pressing steps, learned that lesson the hard way. My pressing station is right beside my machine, sew a bit, spin and press a bit, works great for me.

I sew as many seams as I can then press(something I learned way back when). This saves time and energy. My ironing board is a few steps from the sewing machine.
