Hi! I am a beginner .... my pattern for my first quilt says "fussy cutting". Could someone please define this term for me??

Thanks!!

Fussy cutting is to cut a specific part out of a fabric. For instance if you have Disney princess fabric, you might "fussy cut" 6 inch squares of a princess for the center of a block.

Here is a more formal explanation.

When you fussy cut, you generally have a transparent template that you can position directly over a motif in your material. For example, a basket of flowers. You can place the template so that you can mark around the motif and it is directly in the centre of the shape you are going to cut and not off to the side or cut through the middle.

the easiest and best ( IMO ) way to fussy cut is to use the June Tayor "Get Squared" rulers. You can find them at WalMart, Joanns etc. Be sure to place a lot of sandpaper dots on the back to prevent the ruler from slipping when you cut. The rulers come in 3 sizes and I would never dream of fussy cutting without them!!!

I picked up three different sizes of those rulers recently at Tuesday Morning. Never thought about the sliding around. Thanks for the tip!

I just purchased a new ruler that is made specifically for fussy cutting. If you are interested, go to www.shoppersrule.com and you will find it for about $10.50. It really works well and is called the "3 in 1" ruler although it has six applications. Love mine. Suz

Thank you! I'll check it out!

Forgot to mention, there is a short video on how it works as well as the other applications. S
