I was at an elderly gentleman's house for my nursing home-care. He asked if I knew anyone who could use a sewing machine - or would I at least drop it off at a thrift store for him. I said that my daughter could use one. She does simple mending, hemming curtains, etc. He was thrilled that she could use it. She came to visit this weekend and I presented her with the machine. It's heavy as ever - must be solid steel. It sews like new. Everything original, book, all parts, etc. It's such a treasure, and so excellent! She is excited to sew a quilt now. We worked on a few patterns through the weekend. I looked up the serial number and it was mfg in 1960. Can't believe what a find. I take him a loaf of bread, a plate of lasagna now and then, and I"ll have to continue doing that!

How wonderful, you were kind and look what it got you and your daughter. I have a Kenmore,It is a 1999. It is heavy and a workhorse. will never get rid of it. It has never given me any problems that I couldn't solve. My sister has a Bernia very exspensive, the walking foot cost over $100.00. My walking foot from sears was $15.00 and my Kenmore sews as good as the Bernia. Love my Kenmore. Not knocking the Bernia I know they are very good machines but so is a Kenmore.

SS not sure how I missed this message but wanted to say you can't go wrong w/ a kenmore, at least in my book anyway...mine was used 35 yrs ago and its still the machine I sew with today. Very nice of that man and I am sure your daughter is having lots of fun with it.

I have a Janome 11000, A Bernina 440QE, a Brother 8500D and a ten year old Kenmore. I use the Kenmore more than all the others combined. They are all great machines but the Kenmore is comfortable just like an old friend, I wouldn't trade it for all the world.
