I only sew on a 1941 Singer, which looks a lot like yours, and I LOVE it!!!! How much fun it is to sew when there's just nothing to go wrong!!!! (and if something does go wrong, take out the bobbin case, take out the bobbin, put it back in the case then back in the machine....90% of problems solved. If that doesn't work---rethread from the beginning. Problems solved!!!!)

Believe it or not, I buy belts for my 1941 Singer at Kroger. They're sold as vacuum cleaner belts but are perfect on my machine!

I believe that might be a Singer 128. Check out this picture:

I just ordered this same machine, online, and I just love the decals on it. It is not a "red-eye", which would be model #66.

Here are a couple of links to help you learn about winding and loading the bobbin:

Kayaker26 05-02-2011 03:40 PM

Shes a beaut!

LoriEl 05-02-2011 03:48 PM

Thanks, everyone.
She is a 128 so I will be checking out those bobbin sites! I looked at Lostn51's tute on cleaning the machine but I'm too afraid. I may ask at LQS if they know of anyone that works on old machines. Years ago I knew a Singer sewng machine repair man but he was quite old and passed quite a few years ago.

Beautiful machine. Happy stitching.

Don't be afraid!! I have a Singer 28 handcrank machine (looks very similar to the 128) that I took apart and cleaned and she runs so-o-o smoothly!!! I had never taken a machine apart before so I took plenty of pictures as I took each section apart. I put the pieces, for each section, in small baggies to keep them separated. Then, after cleaning everything along with oiling and greasing all of the proper places, I put it all back together again by looking at the photos that I took. It was easier than you would think.

Beautiful machine.

momto5 05-02-2011 07:05 PM

Absolutely gorgeous!!! Enjoy!

Lucy90 05-03-2011 04:52 AM

Congratulations on getting your machine. I also found one at a large church sale for a $1.00. I have a cabinet for it but have to redo it. I am anxious to sew with it.

These are scans of the individual manual pages at Smithsonian:

And these are similar scans of a booklet about using the attachments:

I wish I could find a 28/128 with those decals - they're called "La Vincedora." I've had one with near-perfect "Rococco" decals and two with "Victorian" decals in poor condition. But, they're great little machines and sew beautifully, as well as being really pretty to look at.

You can often find antique/vintage attachment sets on eBay pretty cheap if you watch for them.

Very pretty!

I downloaded my repro manuals free from sewclassic.com

It's a very pretty machine and your bentwood case looks good, too.

AC615282 What's your idea? Were you right?

Beautiful machine   ;-)

annieshane 05-03-2011 04:09 PM

What a wonderful treat. I have one similar that is hand turned crank in the same type case. It is in excellent condition. My children paid $125 for it for my Christmas present! I am a blessed lady to be sure. I know you will enjoy yours. I printed the manual free off the internet.
