Oh sweety I feel your pain. Let's forget the tea and have a margarita or two instead. You'll feel better then for sure lol

Sorry, Lauren, that all these things happened. I'm smiling with you - you will be able to laugh at this sometime in the future.

I sat down after work to sew around the edges of the quilt so I can cut the excess off othe quilt so I can do the binding tonight. Using my walking foot, I proceed. Puckers!! Puckers!! On one side alone there are eight significant puckers in the border. When I did the stitch in the ditch quilting, (first time ever here!!) I didn't have this problem. I know it can't be the borders were waving that much. I think I know what I will name this quilt in my head.....Puckers! I went to take pictures to attach to show my problem and the "camera God" got me. Neither of the batteries are charged. Sigh I would drink a cold green citrus tea right about now if I had remembered to buy some today. I did see there were none in the refrigerator this morning. And so it goes... Thanks for the vent. Not the way you wanted to end your day, eh? When I read you tore your back I gasped ... I knew what was coming next.
IMHO I feel safer if I trim the backing flush with the quilt after I stitch the binding on. I know they're a lot of opinions out there but this works for me. Let's hope tomorrow it all looks fresher and you can find what's causing the puckers. Blessings, |
We all have those days, tomorrow will be a better day. Sorry that your having problems
|
Some days are like that. Tomorrow will get better.

Not too long ago I had one that puckered along the edge, pulled it all out of course that makes it worse since the edges stretched more. I finally ended up hand basing along the edges with the border and easing the stretched edge. It worked and I learned a valuable lesson.:)

That's when I take a long break - like the rest of the night
|
I know tomorrow will be a better day for sure!!!!

Sounds to me like you need a glass of red wine, not tea (unless you had planned on Long Island Tea..??). I'd just quit for today, call it good, get my fluffiest quilt out, wrap up in it and read my newest quilting book!
There! Now, don't you feel better? |
Oh my ~ not only do I have to worry about the quilt police but the Quilt Gods now, too? :) :)
|
Oh my goodness! I have so had days like that! Hope you had a good nights rest and woke up to better adventures.

If you tear the fabric, it probably needs to be straightened by pulling the fabric on the bias (easier with 2 people) before quilting. You line up the selvages to determine which way to gently pull the fabic so the torn ends line up also. I learned this a hundred years ago in 9th grade Home Economics class. For some reason it is not taught in most quilting classes.

You poor thing. Lots of hugs, hope today is going better.
