When I first read the $8500 for supplies and tools, I thought... NO WAY! Then, I considered my sewing machines, frame, rulers, mat boards, et cetera. I still have a couple thousand to go, but I will get there LONG before I am 62. I am 37, so many more years to shop.

I sew in my laundry room, but my guest room really is my fabric/quilt frame-midarm room.

My fabric stash well exceeds the amount, since I know I have well over a thousand yards. Yikes. Guess I help avaerage out those who don't. :P

Well, I'm almost there for age and all of the rest fits so I guess I am part of the average!

Nope! 44 years old, recently stole my son's bedroom when he went off to college last fall, probably about $5K invested in equipment, and hopefully less than $2K invested in my current stash! These numbers would include patterns, fabrics, and accessories for both sewing and upholstery. It also includes all of my threads & accessories for my embroidery machine. It however does not include my yarn & accessories for knitting!

I fall short on the age and fabric. I'm over on the tools and rooms. :D

I'm there except for the age. Will soon turn 55 but everything else fits. Have been sewing since the 7th grade so it took me awhile to get to where I am with the rest. I'll catch up on anything I lack. haha

As I have been reading the responses the years of buying, using, inheriting, buying, using kept running through my mind. I could never remember all the quilts I have made. Each trip for purchases would average from $50 to $150. If it is $50, do the math. $8500 divided by 50 = 170 trips for purchashes. I know I have been sewing at least 21 years. Could be longer. 8500 divided by 21 is $404. a year. I am amazed that I may well have met more of their statistics than I gave myself credit for. Then you move on to the value of the 'inherited or value earned by thrift shopping'. If the fabric's market value is $10 a yard and you work to find it for a discount, you still have the full market value in your closet. I think that counts.
Well, how about all that. Maybe I am not as broke as I always thought I was. :lol:

Up until recently, I quilted on the kitchen table. When I moved, I claimed an area in the basement.

Not even close. I realize that a ruler here and gadet there add up, but ... Lets just say I paid £25 for my Pfaff 2040 (I know I stole it, because no one knew at the auction what it really was. Brand new and in the box.)

I really don't know exactly what I have invested in my stash, but it certainly is not $3700. I scout deals and rarely pay full retail.

I'm 10 years younger than the average age.
I definiately have a room dedicated to quilting, am in the process of moving now to have a larger sewing room
I probably have ? times as much in tools and supplies if that includes machines (I recently went on a "vintage machine" shopping spree )
Not sure how much in purchased fabric, though I feel like I've purchased that much from the board since I joined

Yes, I have a sewing room, opps I mean "Sewing Studio", Fons & Porter said if your machine sets out longer than 24 hours, the room is considered a "Studio"!

I really, really hate to admit this, but....I believe if you count everything, sewing machines, serger, irons, rulers, mats, tables, files, storage racks, plastic boxes, pins, pencils, patterns, books, thread, scissors, pincushions, special lights, sewing chair, I could come up to this amount.
Please don't tell Hubby!!
