This one has an interesting story behind it because this one came from another design failing. The other design had come from a tile design on a ship in the game Lost Odyssey---which looked like two pieced DRW quilts overlapping and intertwining with each other. I spent almost a month figuring out how this could work and I did succeed at making a block that could be repeated and make this overlapping-intertwining quadruple wedding ring quilt. But I ran into a brick wall the other night when I was trying to see how this could be colored in.......and nothing worked. :(
I came up with this design lying awake in bed still thinking of how to get the color layout for the other quilt to work. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...edsolidPNG.png *Note: The red part is not supposed to be pieced together. You are one awesome creative person :D :D :D I really like the optical effects of the 3rd one, I like the colors of the first one, and the optical illusion of the 2nd one is good too, just a little more subtle. You did it again! :D :D :D

Have you come up with a name for your new designs? Nope. Haven't come up with any names yet. Still have to figure out how this would be pieced together. Well, I know how the whole thing would be pieced together. I mean, how to sew the two scythe-blade-shaped pieces of the rings together. Maybe I'm overthinking it---I've never done curved pieces in quilting before. |
There are some here on the board that may be able to help you with the piecing.... wish I could help, but I am a newbie to piecing! I was looking at it from a paper piecing point of view, but that is because anything more difficult is easier for me paper pieced :D

Maybe I'm overthinking it---I've never done curved pieces in quilting before. paper piecing would be the easiest way to make the rings. you could also print the ring, cut it apart and use the pieces as templates. just don't forget to add your seam allowance. curves are easier than they look, especially when the pieces are large, as they would be in this quilt. i'm too lazy to look for the link to my wedding ring tutorial, but if you dig it out i'm pretty sure it will help you. it's somewhere in the Pictures section. |

I think it's interesting with the shadows in the rings.
Have you ever thought of being a graphic artist? I think you'd be good at that!! Or some kind of mechanical engineering. You seem to have angles and what not down. I think if you submitted your work to some of the schools, make sure you copywrite them first,,,you could possibly get some scholarships or grants. Just a thought! |

The shadowing is VERY interesting. That is a great design! I can't help you with curves. They scare me.

The fabric choice to me would be crucial to make the biggest impact using the idea from the third option. Light to medium, medium to dark, light to dark. Decisions, decisions.

More awesome designs Sam! I've done some curved piecing, even taught a guild workshop on a quilt called "Pagodas" that had "wavy" piecing. You just go slow & it isn't hard at all. :D I think I would probably go for paper piecing on these, seems it would take the stress out of matching maybe. Keep up the great designing!

Hmmmm....gonna need some really accurate templates for this one. Not sure how to go about that. Each side of the ring has got to be the same shape and size, which doesn't seem easy to figure out since the pieces are curved.

I love it, that is what I do most is make DW quilts. The first one I made wa back in the 80's, My first block took me a week to make it. I don't remember how long it took to make the quilt. It was blue and white full size I still have it and no one gets to use it.
I use the hard plastic pattern I have all sizes including miniture. I am now trying a quilt as you go DW so far only one block complted. I am trying to get the lady here in town to give a class. I also have paper piecing pattern but have not tried it yet. Your is really nice. love the colors. |

My mom gave me a fab pattern to do the DW paper pieced!!! It is for the pickle dish... I also have the templates by Marti Michell and it shows how to do the arcs in pieces or as a single piece. I just need to decide what fabrics I want to use!!! I recently order the curve master presser foot that works to make curved piecing. If you haven't seen it, do a search for "curve master" and see how it works!!! I did a drunken path and it turned out really good!!! Now I just need to decide on which DW to work on first

I just haven't been able to focus on anything the last few nights...my wisdom teeth are coming in so all I've been able to focus on is the pain and finding a food that doesn't hurt to eat (soup is the only one so far). :( |

good luck.. I think they post the chat from classes on the board...at least, I know they did it when the girls did a chat on the original Double Wedding Quilt. So I'm not 100% sure they post the other ones. Someone else would know for sure. But if they do, you should be able to see what was discussed if you missed a class. |
