1 3/4" logs/die
 

I watched the YouTube video of quilt in a day, Eleanor burns, demoing the accuquilt strip die (1 3/4"). She used it to do her newest log cabin design from her fabulous forty yrs with Eleanor webinars...first one in February, along with accuquilt's LC design.....anyway.....I have only made one LC in all the yeas I've been quilting...just wanted to try new patterns, but watching the video, seeing Eleanor's new LC, which has sampler blocks along with LC, has made me think maybe.......but cutting all those strips with rotary! I havea GO, so am thinking of buying that die....I like how she cut the fab into the length of the strip, then put thru the strip die to get the logs of 1 3/4", so that logs are on lengthwise rather than WOF, less possibility of stretch...need some opinions on this.....btw, the die is out of stipock at the moment..hopefully there will be a sale, it will be restocked, then I would order it!

I have a Go Baby. I cut a lot of 5" charms for I spy swaps. If you do not cut them on the length of grain they will not be 5". They'll be around 4 7/8".

I have the multi strip die that cuts 1”, 1.5” and 2”. I think. I cut strips of fabric and laid them down and it worked great. I also have the multi 2.5” cutter and that’s really easy to use too. Love them.

I also have the Baby and use it for 5" squares. I've never found them to cut to 4 7/8". I usually starch my fabrics well and proceed to cut them - don't necessarily cut on length of grain (if I do it is accidental!) Never had a problem with the way I cut. Just my 2 cents....for what it's worth!

Check Amazon for the strip cutter in the size you want. . . You might save some money.

I rarely starch anything.

I cut some squares yesterday for some upcoming swaps. They had been laundered and ironed, but not starched. I did not think about the direction of the fabric when I used the Baby Go. They came out to be 4 7/8". Of course, then I remembered.

I just cut the rest by hand.

I contacted Acuquilt when I first got it and realized that it was not cutting correctly. They explained the length of fabric thing. They explain that in great detail. They tell you not to use width of fabric, as it will not be accurate.

I understand that starched fabric would stretch less. Unstarched will stretch on the width of grain and will not give you an accurate cut.

We had a demo on strip dies yesterday at our LQS. Two different widths (two different fabrics) were cut and sewn together which make a flange binding.

We also learned how to fold the fabric so it can be cut for bias strips. This is a great time saver!

They can also cut multiple squares by rotating the cut strips and passing through the machine again. So these could be considered multi-function dies for us.

unfortunately, Amazon has strip dies for sale, but at the same prices as accuquilt!
.....and, I was cutting squares yesterday from scraps and handle locked! I'm disappointed, since I don't use the GO that often, and I don't overload, rather underload and it's now about 6 yrs old.......what to do.......loads of dies, do I replace, take apart and see what's wrong.......or go Sizzix!

I have the log cabin die, and many of the strip dies. I love them all. I bought the hand crank to cut a grandmothers garden and I was hooked! Then I bought the Go Big (electric) the first time it came out. (a zillion years ago). I use my Go more than my sewing machine....a slight exaggeration...but not much. I have switched to buying on Amazon where the supplyer is Accuquilt because the shipping is free (with Prime) and about 7 days faster.
