I am checking Amazon for a 1/4" foot. What is the difference between and quilting foot and a piecing foot?
Thanks |
My quilting foot is what I use for FMQ and my piecing foot is a 1/4 inch foot. But they vary from machine to machine.

once you decide, try ebay. I recently got some feet for much less than my LQS and Amazon.

From what I could see from the pics, it looks like the "quilting foot" has a piece on the side that would perhaps be used if you wanted to stitch 1/4" from the ditch. Maybe the piece would lay in the ditch to help guide you along as you quilt to insure the 1/4" distance. The "piecing foot" simply looks like a foot to use to make sure your seams are 1/4". I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't own a Brother machine.....I own a Pfaff.

The 1/4 inch foot has a flange on the side that you guide your fabric against. The other foot just has a wide side to it and you have to guess where to guide your fabric. I have both and like the one with the flange better.

They are both for piecing, just different styles. :D:D:D

I just read the following board posting, and they were talking about the 1/4" foot that has the edge on it. You might want to check it out. If what they say is true, then both of the feet you mentioned are used for the same purpose. They are just different styles, and you could choose whichever one you would prefer. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-65575-1.htm

The first one has a guide on the side, and I do have one for my Pfaff's.
The second just has marks on it that you have to look at. I would buy the first one if I was too choose between the two. |
