Always had problems with my 1/4" seam until I found this:

I now use my clear plastic open toe foot and this product. Best thing since sliced bread!!!

My Bernina 1/4 foot. I was so delighted that Bernina FINALLY made a 1/4" foot. Back in the 90s, the 1/4" foot had NOT be invented!

I don't use a ¼" foot on my Bernina. I use the open toe embroidery foot (#20) and move the needle one click to the right. It gives me a perfect scant quarter inch seam, keeps the fabric on top of both feed dogs and gives me an open view of where I'm stitching at all times. I have retired my ¼" foot (#37). :)

Same here. Didn't have any repair costs but best to buy for machine designed for. Some things I buy generic but others not!

I realize people look for and purchase ( generic) feet for their machines, I tried that once, the $8 savings cost me $400 in repairs to my machine. Now if I need/ want a new foot I buy the one made for my machine. It may cost a bit more, but it also works/ fits correctly and doesn't do any damage to the machine

Interesting...I will be trying this next time I do some piecing. Thank you for sharing. :)

Like the others I don't use generic feet. I prefer the one with the little 'fence' on the side. I also have one that is equidistant - it measures 1/4" on both sides :)

Like several here have said, I have also abandoned my 1/4" feet on all my machines. Instead, I use the open toe or the "J" foot that comes with my machine, and move the needle. I have far greater control of my "1/4" seam. If I'm using a scant 1/4" or true 1/4", I move the needle position to where I have measured, still using the edge of my foot as the guide.

I find this technique allows for greater consistency with the feed dogs able to do their job, and the fabric glides effortlessly, creating more accuracy and straighter sewing lines.

I also just use my "regular" foot, and move the needle. I do not like the foot with a guide at all, so although I have a 1/4 foot, I really don't bother with it. All of my feet are specific to my brand.

Please forgive my ignorance, but aren't they all ¼" on both sides?
