Although I purchase a brand name 1/4 inch tape, it seems to have too much adhesive;leaving a bit of residue on my fabric. I find myself placing the length of tape I plan to use on a piece of scrap fabric:lifting and replacing several times to remove some adhesive before using the tape on my project. I do not leave it on overnight. Is anyone having this issue? I recently read an article suggesting regular rubbing alcohol can be used to remove any such residue.

"Goof off" may work. I'm wondering if you just found a bad batch of tape. Can you contact the manufacturer?

This is new for me. I haven't been introduced to 1/4" quilters tape or the purpose of it.

Quilter's tape can be used to mark quilting lines on a quilt top. I've also used it to mark the seam allowance, when hand piecing.

interesting - the tape I've used - which was purchased years ago - didn't want to stay on very well

i have also used "tiger tape", when trying to learn to space my hand stitches evenly.

That's what fuzzy flannel pajamma pants are for -- to stick your tape on and reduce the tack before using on your quilt.

I buy the tape from an auto paint store used in the automobile painting industry for pin striping, 1/4 inch wide, not extremely sticky and works fine and much, much less expensive than the quilter's tape.

I like the removable tape on the roll. It's wider but I just move it over 1/4 at a time. It doesn't leave any residue at all. Also I found a whole box of Steri Strips, at a yard sale for .25. They are 1/4 wide. I use them for small blocks or spaces. They are probably available at the pharmacy.

That's good to know. I was looking for 1/4 inch tape with the masking tapes at various stores and never saw any.

I just used Collins brand and have the same problem. It won't come off. When calling the company, it was made by Dritz. I hate their products!!!

I've never tried any kind but sounds interesting. Painters tape would be good if it came in 1/4 inch strips....think I'll check em out next time I'm out and about.

I tried for an hour and couldn't get the tape off. Finally took a wet cloth and rubbed and rubbed till I got most of it off. Thank goodness it is on the inside of a border. I sent an e-mail to Dritz as they have no phone number listed.

I have used the 1/4 in tape a lot, and never heard of this before. maybe it was just a fluke.

That's what I use to mark grid line for hand quilting.

I have used 1/4" quilting tape for years and never had a problem. Must be a faulty batch. With some cheaper brands of masking tape I do have that problem.

When you unroll your painters/masking tape check to see how sticky it is. If it seems too sticky put it on your slacks, the fabric of your sofa or chair, or whatever fabric is handy and it will pick up enough really fine lint to make it less sticky and it will come off without any problem.

I had the same thing happen. Fortunately, I discovered that the tape was leaving sticky stuff on the fabric the first time I used it. I haven't used the tape since.

hi. when using Tiger Tape , does anyone have any good way to adhere it to the quilt top, so that it stays put when doing hand stitching? I can't seem to keep it secure, and find myself having to reposition it all the time..

Seems like it's all or nothing on the stickiness! I use painter's tape and it works just right for me. I lay a long strip on my cutting mat and cut it to a quarter inch width with the rotary cutter.

BTW, Goof-Off, Goop, Goo-B-Gone and WD-40 are all petroleum based and apt to leave oil in place of the 'stick' if you're not very careful. Alcohol would be a safer bet on fabric, imho.

Ghostrider, you don't need to cut painter's tape into 1/4 inch strips. You can buy it in that width at the auto paint shops. It isn't usually colored, but looks like regular masking tape. It works fine and doesn't leave a residue.

Good to know, but I use it for a lot of other things too (like painting!!) so I don't mind at all cutting it for quilting. I like multi-taskers. :-D

I know this thread is older but, this might help someone..I have used 1/4" quilters tape in my faux finishing and murals for years..
You had the right idea, anytime you have tape that sticks too much..The best thing to do is press it against some fabric a couple of times..I have had strips running from below breast to the hem of my shirt may times lol
Also check your paint store for 1/4" scotch brand tape "delicate"- won't lift up your existing paint on the walls when you trim out to paint.
It also makes a nice thin quilt grid patten for quilting and its the only tape that you can flex and bend into shapes..Love the stuff

I worked in a Auto paint store and have used the pinstriping tape, Way,way less expensive. Does not leave any residue on the fabric. I would think an auto store like Checkers, Auto Zone or Advance Auto would carry it.
