I'm just now hand quilting my 2nd quilt. I need to mark the 1/4 seam allowance when quilting around my squares. I've tried the pencils, etc but sometimes they are hard to see on dark material or prints. Has anyone used the tape and if so did you have any problems--i.e. leaving residue on the material when you pulled it off. Also, can it be used on batiks without damaging the material?

I have never used it, but why would they make something that will damage fabric? You could also draw a line with a making tool that marks for quilting. There are discussions if you search on the types of different things people use. I haven't marked any quilts yet, I enjoy FMQ.

I've used the tape and didn't have any problems with residue. I didn't leave it on the quilt but used a short length and stuck it down as I quilted.

I've used the tape with no problems. I didn't leave it on for any length of time either. Worked well.

Don't leave it on for a long time or you may have a hard time getting it off. (I put a UFO away with tape on and it dang near fused to the fabric.)

The Fons & Porter white marking pen does a great job on dark fabric and wipes right off. Makes a very thin line. I've been using it to mark my pattern on a black border. Might be faster than tape. Just my thought.

I've used 1/4" masking tape to quilt next to. As long as you don't leave it on when you are not doing your quilting you shouldn't have any trouble.

Have used the 1/4 "striping tape" available in automotive shops (much cheaper) and as long as you don't leave it on much more than overnight, it works well. Love the color, too, usually bright green.

I've used it to make straight lines across the fabric that will be close together. It works well for that. I guess it depends on what you are doing with it.
