Yesterday I read in our local newspaper that the local fabric shop will be holding a sewing day to make pillowcases to meet a challenge shown in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. Directions for these pillowcases are given at AllPeopleQuilt.com/311. I am really wanting to help with something so last night I went through my stash and picked out some bright colored fabric. 1 yard each of 2 different fabrics will make 2 pillowcases. It took me about 15 minutes to make two pillowcases. So fast and fun! I now have fabric cut to make another 12 pillowcases. I might not get the chance to attend the sewing day, but I will be donating at least 14 pillowcases to the cause. I figure sewing 30 minutes each evening will complete 12 cases in just 3 evening. I am just so excited that something this fast and fun might bring some sunshine to someone!

That is very sweet of you!!! :D:D:D
I wonder how many have been donated now?

I just went to their website, and it says 83,127 have been donated - It really is a great project - The pillowcases we have been making have gone to some GREAT charities, childrens' homes, and all are staying local.

I've been making these for my local shop. I took in 7 and have 3 more done. In between projects I put them together. It's nice to know that someone that has little will get something nice.

WOW!!! That is a lot of pillowcases :D:D:D
I see up north of me, they are having a lot of sewing get togethers making these... I have been in many LQS where they have bundles of fabric made up for them. It is such a worthy cause.

That really is a great cause....and its so nice in this economy that everyone is trying to help others. I will check out the website!

Our Bee made 50 which were all donated to local charities. It was wonderful.

I've got 66 ready to be delivered. Am at the sewing machine so much...guess I'll just have to make the time. It is soooo fun to do. Several friends gave me a ton of fabric helping to keep the costs down.

Such a worthwhile project. The pillowcases can go to any local organization. I'm donating to the Clackamas Womens Shelter and The Canby Center.

I just finished making three and have a fourth almost done. I made the pillowcase tubing one shown on MissouriQuilt.com. Man is it ever easy.

Three pillowcases ready for 2010 challenge.

These cases are such fun. Last night (Sunday) I went ahead and stitched 6 together. Just 4 more to do, but I'm thinking I have more fabric that will do just fine for more cases. OH NO, I think I've become addicted.

I have to check threw my stash see if I have anthing big enough.

wvdek, Your cases are very pretty! I choose to use just 2 pieces, faster for me that way, but now after seeing how pretty your three colors on one case look, I'm tempted to try three colors next time. However, I'm not good at picking colors - thats way I'm a quilter instead of a piecer LOL.

O.K. I could not rest today until I completed all 14 of the pillowcases I'm making for the pillowcase challenge. They are now completed and I want to show each of you what they look like. Now, remember, I am not good with colors, and sometimes what I think will look good together seems to backfire, but I really, really dislike (Mom always told me it was not "good" to "hate" anything so I can't say "hate" ripping anything apart. I do have a question ----- Does it matter with a directional print which side faces up? Should the right side up be "up" when you look at the pillowcase with the opening down or with the opening up. The deer on three of the cases I made are upright if you hold the case with its opening up. If you hold the case with the opeing toward the floor, the deer are upside-down. Is there a correct way?

I had some prints with the same situation. Bottom line, I wouldn't worry about it. The organizations are so pleased to get them and so are the recipents(?)! Help - I need a spell checker!
