Is this the 10 min block?

It looks like the 10 min block but she is showing more how she sewed the edge differently than how the block is made.

I don't really know but I love the quilts she made!!

dogsgod 08-22-2013 04:25 AM

yes it looks like it........

GemState 08-22-2013 04:38 AM

Yes, that is the 10 minute block. She just gave it a different look by the way she rolled the edges and stitched them. Very attractive.

Tartan 08-22-2013 04:40 AM

It does a appear to be copied from the 10 minute block, that was copied from the faux Bow Tie block before that. She just divided it into more sections when she sewed back the edges.

mighty 08-22-2013 06:37 AM

Looks like it to me.

katkat1946 08-22-2013 06:43 AM

The way she folded her blocks is really pretty. Here's one of the videos made by Suzanne McNeill - you'll be able to find more:http://youtu.be/ZbTHlGGKMPM

mckwilter 08-22-2013 07:05 AM

Yes, it is the 10-minute block. Thanks for the link; I enjoyed seeing her quilt and the different way she curved the edges. This way it looks more like a screened panel than a cathedral window.

DOTTYMO 08-22-2013 08:51 AM

Yes I did the same pattern on one of my quilts .

Quiltngolfer 08-22-2013 09:15 AM

The center back looks different from the Suzanne McNeil block to me. Isn't it?

JustAbitCrazy 08-22-2013 04:49 PM

Wow, I really like that variation. Thanks for the link! Another quilt on the bucket list, lol....

grammy of 6 08-22-2013 05:27 PM

How big do you think the block is?

Jennie and Me 08-22-2013 07:09 PM

I have that pattern and it was published by Shelly Swanland in 2004. It's still on my bucket list but I'm glad to see it on here, maybe it will be scooted up to the top of the list! I too, have a lot of Fairy Frost fabric that would look so good in that pattern.

The finished block looks to be about 6", could be 6.5", judging by the cutting mat under the blocks. Start with 5 4" blocks and see if you like that , if not you can go larger or smaller.

Seaside gal 08-23-2013 05:34 AM

Are the side pieces actually curved or is that optical illusion?

Love that quilt, it needs to be on my bucket list as well. What is the name of the pattern? Please : )

misseva 08-23-2013 06:44 AM

I made a 10 minute block and it used five 10" blocks. So figure 19 1/2" finished??? I suppose you could make it with any size block.

linmid 08-23-2013 07:02 AM

Is there a site to go to that shows how she got the curved edges on the block?

When you roll the edges back they automatically curve at least mine did.

fangman 08-23-2013 07:52 AM

I'm going to try that someday. Looks like fun.

Caswews 08-23-2013 08:21 AM

Hmmm.. looks like they sewed the block together then sewed the top on like an applique.
Look Suzanne Mc Neil up on You Tube and see how she does the 10 minute block. I have her book on it and its different than what I learned.

Mariah 08-23-2013 08:44 AM

Yes, I would say so. I made a quilt with the 10 min. block and my blocks looked like your one which is smooth--Green I believe. However, I have seen others so there are several variations on the original. Any version I am sure is fine. Mine had the between blocks as snowballs, and also snowballs in the border. Have had lots of compliments on it, and it should be snuggly warm this Winter! Good luck with your project! Mariah

cherrio 08-23-2013 02:09 PM

that's the 10 minute block with Pizzaz!

Pat G 08-23-2013 03:16 PM

It is a 10 Minute block. I just made a whole top using them & did the cathedral roll on all of the centers. The idea of pinning the center & sewing down the sides is a great idea. I'll have to try that next time. These blocks are so quick to make. I love seeing them unfold to see how pretty they are.

katkat1946 08-23-2013 05:23 PM

Just a 'warning' - I think Suzanne McNeil suggests using 10" squares. When you use them this big, the block is very easy to construct. I used this technique with 5" squares and found them to take twice as long because the smaller pieces are harder to manipulate. Maybe 8 or 9" squares? Even 7" would help but then they aren't precuts which sure are easy to use.

Jennie and Me 08-23-2013 06:14 PM

The pattern is called "Snow Puzzle" by Shelley Swanland. The first time I left out the "e" in Shelley.

GeeGee 08-23-2013 07:33 PM

This is Shelley Swanland's design and I think she does it different than the 10 min. block. I will check my pattern.

twinkie 08-24-2013 03:14 AM

It sure looks like the 10 minute block. I have done several of them.

AnnT 08-24-2013 04:12 AM

That's very striking. Definitely "pin-able"!

Rubesgirl 08-24-2013 04:41 AM

Definitely a 10 minute block. She took the cathedral windows edges to a different level ... really pretty!

BettyGee 08-24-2013 06:10 AM

The back of the block doesn't look like Suzanne McNeil's "10 Minute Block", but the result does. Love the variation on Ms McNeil's method, it creates a gorgeous block.

Scrap41 08-24-2013 01:04 PM

It is a variation of the 10 Minute Block. I am doing mine with 5 inch squares and hand sewing the edges down like
the Cathedral Window block out of Batiks. The center block is lighter batiks and it is very colorful. I have 18 more
blocks to make before I can put it together with 10 blocks across and 12 rows down and will put a 5 or 6 inch border
around it. I hope to have it done before Christmas, and that includes having it quilted by a LA; maybe DD can figure
out how to post a picture for me then.

nwm50 08-24-2013 02:57 PM

No not 10 min block as u see on the back side like its triangles but then again I may be wrong cause I'm not sure how the edge was turned over it it wasn't.....

katesnanna 08-24-2013 03:00 PM

Thanks Ngeorgia for sharing this site. I've bookmarked it to spend more time on later.
