I am intrigued by the spray startch. I have never even thought of using it. I am assuming it is to stiffing up the fabric your quilting? I will have to try it when I start my next project.
Here is my list.... 1. Gingher scissors (going to live with the gypsies is threated to anyone who touches them) 2. cutting mat and rotary cutter 3. 12 1/2' & 6 1/2" squares. (never realized how much help they would be) 4. Iron (I only like to iron fabric... clothes can be throw in the dryer to dewrinkle) hehe 5. Seam Ripper (cause the perfection I strive for is ever fleeting) 6. Garbage Bowl (A small mixing bowl I keep near my machine for cut threads and scraps. Easier than a grabage can that I trip over) 7. Good lighting 8. Reading Glasses cause squinting gives me wrinkles 9. Audio Book, movie or music (often I prefer the silence but having 3 kids and the koolaid house on the block it is rarely found) 10. Inspiration (I love having a purpose and a goal for my quilts) What I have learned from this thread... I will try spray startch I love he idea of a stillehto/cutical thing or a kebab stick.. going to try one or all1 Also a clean kitchen is nice... cause that is what I see when I am sitting at my machine. |
Here is my list:
1.Whichever sewing machine will do the job I am wanting it to do. 2.Piles of fabric 3.Multiples spools of thread. 4.Two different pairs of scissors- small for thread, large for fabric/ 5.My OTT floor lamp. 6.Rotary cutting mat 7.Rotary cutter. 8.Tons on acrylic rulers. 9.Pins. 10.Rowenta iron |
Okay, mine now. Much like the above lists.... (I, too, am an Andrea Bocelli fan. I have listened to that very cd countless times and find myself singing along in Italian, not knowing what I'm saying.)
1. MP3 player. Music never fails to keep me energized. 2. My drafting table so I don't have to bend over. 3. My little snippers. I can't remember the name of them, but they are unlike scissors in that you don't have finger holes to find to be able to cut. 4. My computer. I use it a lot to check terms, defiitions and details out, or ask questions here on the board. 5. The ever-popular seam ripper. My very best friend. 6. Did I mention the gin and tonic or glass of chardonnay? 7. Frosted ruler with a hand gripper that doesn't slide on me while cutting. 8. My glasses. I'm fine until I have to see up close. 9. TWO trash cans, placed at both ends of the drafting table. 10. Bag to put resusable scraps in. Oh, and my two cats and yellow lab that I have to trip over. They are a necessity. What I need is: A hand-vac Sticky-finger stuff to pick up little pieces as I'm working (great idea) Andrea Bocelli actually sitting behind me and singing...specifically to me. Better lighting. More room to organize my ever-growing stash. |
BDor I too love the tacky finger stuff. It's great for picking block pieces and especially separating cut pieces from each other. I found some in a quilt store called Lickety Grip.
|
Just about all that stuff, we couldn't limit it to just 10 things, and we don't have a sewing room, we have a sewing house. We have a dedicated room just for our Bernina's and sewing stuff, I'm custom building everything cabinets, cutting table, stash closet, dedicated lighting for each machine, design wall, light table, The living room is the quilting studio, 26" Innova longarm with a 12' table, who needs furniture. Of course we have to have supervisors, none other than the Fabulous Furry Feline Gang of 3. Missy, Kitty Kitty, and Joise (the clown from Maine coon country).
Oh, and an I-Pod with an Apple Hi-Fi. |

Should have been number 2, right after glasses.... MY FABRICS! (I know, everybody has to have fabric, but I couldn't not give it, it's due!) I have to have a comfy chair, and my painkillers, or ain't nothin gettin done! - :D Now see, I just backed up, one reply, and there ain't no way, I can sew/quilt without my special lights! I normally listen to audiobooks. My latest favorite is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Although listening to it will spook you in today's economic climate. It is very long but worth every minute. You can get the audiobook at audible.com.
