10-y/o UFO- What to do??

So I have a UFO set, it was supposed to be a pair of twin size rail fence quilts for the son's of my ex-husband's eldest brother. Note the 'ex' part. Needless to say, these never got finished *because* of that.

So, today I pull them out of my WIP box, to start cross cutting my strip-sets, so that I can just finish them and put them up for sale. Except that it turns out my piecing skills have vastly improved over the 10 years (go figure), and my strip sets are bowed & uneven in width. In some places they vary by almost half an inch!

I know I'm going to just 'go with it' and figure it out, but eesh! Teach me to leave a project untouched for so long. I hope the other strip sets are better (I didn't start that one as long ago).

How wonderful to find out that your skills are improving! Maybe you can cut the uneven strip sets up and use them in a crazy string quilt?

That's a good thought. I'm also thinking about slicing the parts that are WAY too narrow into 1-1/2" strips, and using them as a scrappy border. I think that could work out very well.

So very true! :)

I'm thinking something like this: The quilts aren't green, but this was a block i had previously been playing with, so it works anyway. :)

I have been working on a quilt for my granddaughter that I started in '04, which was just a little while after I started quilting. The only new years resolution I made was to finish it by Christmas 2012. When I first picked it up again, it was very hard not to take everything apart and start over, but I decided that she would never know, so I just continued to complete the blocks. Although I haven't quite finished it, I did make her a different quilt for Christmas. I have decided that before I'll give the UFO quilt, she'll need to learn a few "housekeeping" skills, but that isn't answering your question.

If you don't wish to give it to your ex's sons, then don't, you could make several smaller quilts for your local animal shelter, this way, you get it out of your hair, and you don't have to "worry" about someone not liking it, because I can tell you that the animals will truly appreciate their new beds/quilts.

Like your quilt plan and the idea go cutting the ones too crooked narrower for borders for baby quilt or something.

Are you in a guild?
Does your guild have a free/trade/for community table at the meetings?
Last year we had a challenge to finish UFOs, but that included trading them, giving them away, you-finish-mine, I'll-finish-yours, and donated by "anonymous". The members loved this trade and have continued it in another format for this year, too.

My point is, maybe you'd be happier passing this UFO along to another someone to finish.

I have a project that is two years old, I was making two twin size bed quilts for our spare room. Well, I got a midarm machine and frame so we sold the beds to make room for my stuff. They are supposed to be QAYG blocks, therefore, I have all the backing squares cut and fused to the battings. I also have all the strips cut but have only completed 20 blocks. I need to figure out what to do with all the blocks before I continue to sew them. I thought I might just make all the blocks, figure out how many I have and then maybe just make lap quilts and give them to charity.

I have a UFO thats 18 years old.. and I just can't bring my self to do anything with it.. so I will donate it to some one who needs to practice their long skills, then they can donate it to some cause.
