100wt polyester thread
 

I’m trying to teach myself how to FMQ feathers on my innova longarm. Is it okay to use the same 100 wt polyester thread in the bobbin or should I use cotton because polyester is slippery? Also, should I use the same weight of thread? Any help is appreciated-thank you 🙂

In my Gammill, I generally quilt with SoFine #50 and save the #60 or #100 poly's for micro quilting fills. But if I do use the finer thread, I will also use it in the bobbin.

If you are practicing then try different combinations of threads for top and bobbin. You never know which one will be the perfect one for you until you try.

I've never heard of poly thread being slippery. I actually piece exclusively with Bottom Line, which is a 60 wt poly thread. Am experimenting with quilting threads at the moment.

Are using MicroQuilter? I sometimes use it in bobbin and on top, and sometimes I use a different thread in the bobbin. I'm also quilting on an Innova. I never use cotton threads anymore because of the lint.

I believe it is microquilter, but it’s not from superior threads. I have recently had come to the conclusion I need to stop using cotton thread because of the lint-nice to hear I’m not alone.

MicroQuilter is a Superior Threads brand name, so if your cone says MicroQuilter, it is from them.

I don't see why you can't use the 100 wt thread to quilt with. A heavier weight thread will show up more, while a fine thread won't. If you're just practicing, you might want to use something heavier so it's easier for you to see and learn from. Finer threads are also good for quilts where you want the piecing to be the focal point, not the quilting.
