I was going through my quilting magazines and saw a picture of a 1718 Silk Coverelet and wondered if any of our members from the UK have ever seen this quilt? According to the article
by Dorothy Osle, it has 182 blocks. It is 67"x73". Most of the blocks are 4 1/2" square. I thought it was a wonderful quilt and wondered if there is possibly a website that displays it or if it is in a Museum somewhere in England? Thanks for any information that anyone may have. Eiltcoq.

I can't help you, but I would really be interested in seeing this quilt if you have a picture of it. :D

You can have a look here:

The Quilters Guild of the British Isles bought this quilt in 2000 at an auction.

Isn't that lovely? I would imagine there is a sheen to it, being made of silk.

Did you notice the term "piecing over papers"

And we thought we were so innovative!

Borntohandquilt, Thank you for providing the website for the 1718 Coverlet. I think it is a beautiful quilt and would love to make miniature of it. Are there patterns available? Could a person make some of the blocks of the replica for personal use?
I'd love to visit the Museum that has the Original. It's a beautiful piece of Art. Eiltcoq.

Well, I don't know this. But maybe you can contact the Guild by E-Mail and ask for the pattern! I'm sure they will be helpful. You can find the contact adress at the bottom of the homepage I sent the link for.
