1st postcard attempt

This was my first time trying to do a postcard...learned from my experience. I used off white fabric for the other side, but thought a paper product would have been better. Any ideas?

Good job. The ones I have received have been done both ways, also with card stock 'batting'. Also, they were heavily starched.

lynnie 02-29-2016 01:03 PM

I put petex, the very thick interfacing and on the other side, I put regular cardstock.
on the card stock, I put the address on the right side, and post my message on the left.
I also decorate the left side with markers and rubber stamps. Yours came out great.
Have fun with it. It's very pretty. They get addicting, don't they? Have fun.

That card looks so pretty and well made.

I can see that they would be addicting. How do you mail them?

JuneBillie 02-29-2016 05:36 PM

Pennyhal you can mail them just like any post card, but keep them the same size of 4x6 inches. They stamp the side with the address. Some mail them in an envelope if they have beads or something like that on them. You just make sure you write POST CARD at the top of the side with address.

It looks wonderful! You did a great job.

Tumdarra: you did an awesome job. I have made several and if you want a free postcard template for cardstock on the back, here is one I found: http://www.timvandevall.com/template...ble-postcards/ Just right click on the link for the back of the postcard, save to your drive and print as needed. I have made several, and like lynnie, use Peltex, a super heavy stabilizer instead of batting. I also bought crystal clear envelopes (50 for $10.95 at a bit larger than 4" x 6") at envelopes.com, to protect my work. Be forewarned, they do cost more to mail than a regular postcard or a normal envelope. Check with your post office.

Very appropriate for the upcoming holiday. I have never made one yet.

Good job! Now I want to try one!

Tumdarra, You are talented! Great postcard. You have made me interested in making some postcards.

Great job on your 1st postcard. I run the back of the card on photo print paper-you can get 4 on one sheet and use an iron-on mesh stabilizer to make the front of the design a little stiffer, mainly because I machine embroider or Free-motion embroidery on the front. I also put mine in clear envelopes to mail as when I started doing them the post office said no way could they mail it. It would be nice if others shared their cards.

Great job. I like you, use muslin for the back of my postcard. I like mine like that. We have a postcard swap here on the Quilt Board if you'd like to join us. Come check us out.

Very pretty, perfect for upcoming St. Patrick's Day. I like the stitching you used on the postcard. Nice job.

make sure that they hand stamp it so it won't go through the machines

It's adorable! I would love to receive that in the mail. I did postcards a few years ago using a good quality watercolor paper for the back. It worked great. I bought a book with patterns and it recommended the w/c paper. I mailed a few of them and they got to where they were going. One of the mailed ones went to a postcard art gallery exhibit. It had to be mailed and postmarked. Wouldn't that be a fun guild project? :)
