One of my favorite quilts is a quilt top I bought some years ago in an antique store in St. Augustine. It was torn in places and it had some rust spots but the log cabin top was really a scrap quilt. Some of the logs have 2 or 3 pieces of fabric in different shapes and it was all hand quilted. I repaired the top, added scrappy borders and quilted it. Everyone comments on what a beautiful quilt it is. Now I can't remember which pieces I replaced and which were original. I say use what you have and the logs don't have to be even as long as the finished block is trimmed to the size you want.

Log cabin quilt

Thank you to all of you who shared your thoughts!! I started this project now because of the shut in and was looking for something new to stay busy. I planned on getting to it at some point, but I am an avid knitter, gardener, and getting back to playing the piano after a lifetime of being away, so that does keep me busy. But, I thought this would be a great time to tackle somethig new. That being said, I am really enjoying this project and I'm using a sewing machine that was passed down to me from my mother in law.

I am so grateful to have this forum for support!

Stay Well!!
