2 1/2 inch christmas fabric squares.

I have a bunch. Any suggestions for a xmas quilt?

nativetexan 05-05-2017 03:30 PM

well there are blocks made with 2 1/2 inch squares that are christmas trees,or could make rail fence style with the colors,or make nine patch blks and place them on point to make table runners, etc.

Oh, scrappy trips around. Pattern from www.Quiltville.com.

Holiday placemats and a centerpiece to match them.

Use them to frame larger squares of fabrics. I also really love the granny square type blocks, but you would need some multiples of each print you have.

See? Aren't they PRETTY? I think they would be awesome done in Christmas prints, especially small ones.

For me it would be an Irish Chain.

I just made a tree skirt. Or maybe a table centerpiece.
Enjoy your project.

I think that's what I would do too. Irish Chain is my go to pattern for scraps. Can't wait to see what you end up making, btw!

I'm doing "Piecing the Past" block of the week. I'm cutting a lot of 2 1/2 inch squares.

I like Sunny Skies. I use Missouri Star Quilt tutorial. It is easy to enlarge the quilt size. Plus there is a secondary pattern that pops up!

sewingsuz - I also have Christmas fabric that I want to use. I'm thinking of sewing my Christmas 2 1/2" squares together (scrappy) and then cutting different Christmas shapes (trees, bells, stars, etc) out of solid colors and then randomly appliqué them onto the top of the quilt.

celwood 05-07-2017 04:12 AM

I would make table runners and placemats. I like to keep the runners and placemats on my dining room table during the Christmas season

Wanabee Quiltin 05-07-2017 04:49 AM

How about a triple or double Irish Chain, they make gorgeous quilts.

Gannyrosie 05-07-2017 05:00 AM

I would probably do some kind of star pattern. Or even use them for geese's with stars randomly. I like scrappy

madamekelly 05-07-2017 12:44 PM

I saw a scrappy triple Irish chain with a light background recently that would look wonderful in your Christmas fabric.

joyce888 05-07-2017 01:04 PM

I think the suggestion of Irish Chain would be pretty.

I'm hooked on Mondo Bags, they use 192 squares. It's been a great stash buster. You could make Christmas gifts.

Quiltville 'Fourth of July' used a lot of 2 1/2" squares with a background fabric and two other colors(these could be scrappy, too, as long as you choose darker squares. Google Quiltville Fourth of July and look at the blue one). You could use more by making them part of the border, too.

there is a Birthday swap group on this site. Go to that and look at some of the work the participants have done. Good examples this year and last year too. Arkansas crossroads is one idea and a site named Wedding Dress Blue also has LOTs of ideas for 2.5 inch squares.

I made several with 9 patch blocks with same size large print squares. Raggedy Ann & Andy decorating the tree, Santas, etc...super fast and easy.
