I had 2 guild meeting yesterday and just wanted to put this out there for those who would like to join a guild, find a friendly one and go for it.

My first meeting is a group of art quilters. We call ourselves The Underground Art Movement. There are only 5 of us and we are working on a whisper project and I got some really helpful hints for what was troubling me on my current project and my next assignment, so I have to get that one started and finish up the last one.

After that I went to the Raintree meeting in Evansville. I am a new member and am always warmly greeted. They have a potluck twice a year and one was last nite. The food was great and many asked for my sushi salad recipe. They said they liked it, but maybe they just wanted to make sure they did not make it themselves!

I know that I am always on here talking up the guilds, but that is because mine are so important to me, besides the 2 I just mentioned, I belong to 2 others and I am on a committee that puts on an annual retreat. Quilting is a huge part of my life, I love it and my quilting friends.

I absolutely love my guilds too. Especially the retreats. A few days off just for me. I always take UFO"s to finish up. I would love your sushi salad. My mom is Japanese, my dad american. I was raised eating sushi. Love it. Would you mind PM'ing me the recipe. It will be put to good use. Thank you. I wish I had more time to belong to more guilds. I always said if I ever get on my own, I am gong to do nothing but quilt, take classes, and go to retreats all over the USA. Maybe some cruises. I am a busy person, by choice, so everyone knows to schedule around my guild meeting nights.LOL

There is nothing wrong in stating how you feel about your quilds. Sometimes it is rare to find a group of women that love the same thing, specially a dying art. When you get the quilting bug, you want to share it with eveyone.
Your PROUD of your group and should be.

I belong to one, some of the members are sort of clicky, but I am learning to particiate more, and add my comments for good or bad.

I am considering very hard whether to continue my membership in our guild or not. Right now I'm at the no stage. It is very hard to get very many members to particpate in anything new. They all seem to be stuck in their old ways, new members don't hang around long, and a number of older members have drifted away. All because the founding members do not want to change the way anything is done. Trying to add new and exciting projects, has failed for the most part. They don't want to do anything for the community. They have said that their guild is a teaching & learning guild. But they don't do much of that either. A couple of us may just quit and start another group in another small town that is close. More community oriented. I'll decide by the end of the year. I need more interaction and particiaption by members for me to stay. Only a few can't do it all!!!

That is true, some of us broke off and joined a new guild. Now we have quilt shows and host retreats! I still belong to the first one, I like the ladies.

I joined a guild this year and I have learned so much. Things you just can't learn from a book. Sometimes I need hands on and don't have the money to pay for classes. The ladies there are so helpful and want to you to learn new things. The thing I like the most is we open our business meetings up with prayer. We have a day and a night group. We meet on Tuesday. We have a UFO the last Friday of month. Those are just a few of things we do we also make children hospital quilts. I am so blessed to belong to such a great guild.
