2 layers of batting

I know a lot of you layer 2 layers of hobbs 80/20. Has anyone ever layered a cotton on the bottom and then a poly on top of that? I was thinking it might give me a puffy(trapanto) look. Without doing all the extra work. Any thoughts?

Never done it but sounds interesting. Might just have to make a small sample....

I just finished 4 quilts exactly like that, with some custom quilting I think it would look very much like trapunto, I just used a panto, I used the 2 batts because it was memory quilts made from the reciepients (sp) daddy's shirts and I wanted them to be very very warm . I haven't posted pictures yet, I need to get that done.

I have done exactly what you describe on many quilts. One layer Cotton and one Poly. I love the extra bit a loft , warmth , and dimension to the quilting.
Make a small sandwich with the battings you are thinking about using to see if its the effects you are hoping for.

I used two layers of batting for a thick baby quilt to put on the floor, for the baby to play on. It didn't work out too well, machine skipped stitches that I had to go back and fix.

I am thinking it would work better to have them LA than do them on a domestic ...

i know a few (big-name) quilters who use a cotton & a wool batt together to help (enhance) their custom quilting- as long as your fibers can be cared for together they can be used together.

I have heard of layering the Hobbs 80/20 with a wool batting. I have seen the finished quilt and it does give a Trapunto look. Very nice.
