3 fabric quilt ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas for making a quilt with 3 fabrics. For some reason, I have 2 sets of 3 fabrics but no idea what to do with them. Something with large blocks and few pieces would be great! I already have 2 quilts started w/ small pieces and I'm looking for something that will give quick gratification!

thanks
Cyndy K

You could make:

- a chevron quilt with 3 different fabrics, either with HSTs, or strips.

- a quilt with rectangular 4 patches

- an irish chain quilt, either double or single with two differently coloured chains.

- a disappearing 9 patch quilt

- a disappearing 4 patch quilt, either with two different coloured blocks or interchanging the colours between two blocks (uhm...do you know what I mean by that?)

Hmm...I'm sure there are many more!

are they solids or pattern.. or both? I am working on a BQ2 and I am only using 3 fabrics. But I have 1 fabric that has a big print for the focus then 2 solids.

Jennie from Missouri Star Quilts just did a tutorial on a double friendship star quilt that used only 3 fabrics. It looks great and seemed relatively easy to piece. Check for it on their site or on u-tube

This was recently discussed. You should find a lot of good ideas here.

This is an easy pattern. Be sure to go to the next page to see all the different ways it can be put together.

Rail Fence is a good three fabric quilt.

How about Hole in the Barn Door with the third fabric being the middle square.

Any of the BQ quilts would work! Good luck...

I love BQ & BQ2. Many photos have been posted in previous post.

It is a fun and quick quilt to make.

This is my favorite 3 Fabric quilt. I have made several because it is so easy and my family loves it. Do 3 -2 1/2 wide strips & however wide the fabric is. , sew together then take 6 in triangle cut out shapes turning each way. then sew together like it shows on the quilt. Hope you understand this. lol Let me know if you like it and would need more info.

Susan, I could not att. this to a private message so I am posting here. Hope this is ok. I know this pattern is out there somewhere but I saw it from someone else and figured it out myself so I do not know who to give the credit to. Hope I am not out of line here.

Do a google search for quilt with 3 fabrics. Or change wording and look at images.

Here are a couple of idea for you. Both are super-fast to piece and you can do a walking foot grid or fancier quilting and they turn out looking great!

This first one is essentially a modified rail fence layout with the center strip wider than the two outer ones. You could alternate center strips to use 3 fabrics instead of 2:

And this one can be used with a panel, or just patterned and/or solid fabrics as I have done:

I don't know how much fabric you have but how about a large Swoon quilt?

or how about the Funky Wrench from the Happy Zombie. The largest size makes a 48" quilt. Not sure what size you're looking for.

3 fabric quilt ideas?

A Carpenter's Star is a good, fast three color quilt if there is enough contrast. Check out my blog post a couple days ago and you will see one in purple I just made. I also made one in blues a couple weeks ago.

Wow! Thank you all for the wonderful ideas! I've not been on the board for a few days, so sorry for the delayed reply. Lots of great choices.

I recently made a quilt with three fabrics from the quilterscache.com site. The block was called Squares within Squares 2.
