30 log cabin squares layout help
Can you please tell me which way you would lay out 30 log cabin squares? They are 11 inch squares.
I have looked and people seem to use 24 or 36 squares. Thanks in advance. |
Are you asking about color placement or just general assembly?
Is it for a bed or just a lap quilt kind of thing? Are you adding anything onto them after you assemble them? For general assembly I would just do six rows of five squares |

I use 30 block with 5x6 layout. With 30 blocks you will have a 55x66 quilt with is a good size for a lap quilt.

QuiltnNan, I like that layout.

I read years ago there are lots of ways to lay out log cabin squares. I just play around with mine until I like the look.

Did you try to Google "30 block log Cabin layout"? I too have EQ and it makes choosing layout so easy with a click of the mouse. so many various layouts it will be hard to choose.

ANY pattern which would work with 30 large half-square triangle blocks will work with a traditional log cabin block.
Log cabin is probably the most versatile multi-pieced block you can make. :) Jan in VA |
I like the Barn Raising layout. With 30 blocks you not be able to center the center, if that makes sense, but I like the offset look. I think it gives it a bit more modern look. My second favorite is Peaks and Valleys.

Any pattern with triangles can be a log cabin layout. A book from long ago..."It's O.K. If you sit on my quilt" was a book of different layouts for a log cabin amoung many others. look for layouts in google.
