4 half-square triangles
Is there a formula for determing how big to cut the squares when you want to make 4 half-square triangles? Maybe a chart on the net? Have a gal from a quilt retreat that I go to that asked me these questions and I didn't have an answer but knew who would or could point us in the right direction. Thanks again for all the help! Thank you Mike'sgirl that was easy! I did however go to Jenny Doan's blog and just typed what I wanted and watched her video and there is a chart beneath it. Now I will look like the 'smart' one. LOL

Just be careful that they are NOT cut so the outside edge is bias. You have to be a confident quilter in order to deal with bias edges. My formula for making four is to make two sets of squares. I always round up the number to an even number.

Here's the way many of us do them. No Bias edges. We just cut the 7/8" at 1" and trim a little:
