45/90 HSTruler substitute???
 

I am dodging the heat...have pieces cut to assemble "Pinwheel Paradise" from the book "Jelly Roll Dreams". The strips are 2 1/2"wide, and I am supposed to use a 45/90 multisize ruler to cut the HST' using the 2" mark on the ruler. Guess who can't find her ruler? ;( Only one quilt shop within 40 miles of me, and it closed at noon- isn't open on Mondays. Any advise on how to cut these without the ruler? Math was never my strong suit! Sigh.

Do you have a six inch square ruler with those degree lines? that works for me.

Your regular ruler should have those lines marked at one or both ends.
90 degree is just the regular square corner. 45 degrees is the diagonal from corner to opposite corner of a square.

Be sure to have 1/4 inch at the top point of the 45 degree angle ABOVE the fabric. Better to have to trim down the HST than for it to be too small. I loaned my ruler to a dear friend who had a really rough couple years, then they decided to move, so I improvise with a regular square ruler too. Good luck with it.

Mans tools. Find his tooll for right angles 90* draw this on paper or cardboard and then fold in half.
Children raid their maths equipment and find peetractor and draw your lines , geometry at school.

Remember do you have any ruler if so the corner of any ruler is 90 and a diagonal line through each square is 45.

Hope this makes sense. Does to me but I love maths. Just thought look on computer how to make these angles should get some school papers on this subject.

To clarify, the completed HST block needs to be 2 1/2" unfinished, and these are cut from 2 1/2" wide strips. If I just cut at 90 degrees with regular ruler, the completed square will be smaller than 2 1/2", correct? I usually cut 2 7/8" squares to make 2 1/2" blocks....I think! I need more coffee!

Make a template in a strong paper even envelope and mark from your base line up in inches and draw across your triangle shape. Do this on both sides. Now cut out triangle. Should have the bottom of triangle . Now make the template on template stuff or use cardboard and opt markings on both sides. Try should work.
