5" charm packs

I am considering putting an order to Connecting Threads and am wondering if anyone has bought them. Are they a true 5 inches? I have read that some are short so I would like your opinions before I place an order. Thanks for your help.

fabric lover 01-09-2014 10:19 AM

I have several packages and love ! them.
So far I had them all exactly 5 inches, but they are all from Moda , I can't say anything about others.

pokeygirl 01-09-2014 10:24 AM

My experience with Charm Packs (Moda), not true to size.

dunster 01-09-2014 10:31 AM

I have not ordered their charm packs, but I have found that CT answers email questions promptly, and if something is wrong with your order they are quick to fix it. Perhaps you could email them about the accuracy of the charm squares?

ManiacQuilter2 01-09-2014 10:43 AM

Many Charm Squares are cut by the manufacturer and not store. I would say the same as Duncan, to contact the store. I have recently purchased Tonga Treats 6-pack and if they are short, I will contact Timeless Treasures directly even though I purchased them from Hancock of Paducah.

So far any I have purchased from CT have been fine. I really like the fact that they don't charge for cutting, so charms are the same price per yard as a normal cut.

I love connecting threads..I have ordered several five inch charm packs and all was the same size. Never once have I had a problem with an order. 10 inch are just as nice to sew with..

sahm4605 01-09-2014 11:43 AM

I have ordered them and for the most part the are true or supper close to it. Most of the problems I have had from them is when there is a crease in the fabric it gives you a slightly larger and off block. But that is easyish to fix.

TexasSunshine 01-09-2014 05:08 PM

I ordered 5 or 6 charm packs of some batiks and had no problem with them.

CherryPie 01-09-2014 05:13 PM

I have never had any problems with their charm packs and I have ordered a lot of them.

I like Connecting Thread fabrics and have ordered some of their precuts. So far no problem with their charms, but I the one jelly roll I ordered had several strips that were not true 2-1/2". I contacted them and told them that the mis-measured strips did not allow me to make the project I had bought them for. CT immediately credited my account the price of the jelly roll. Great customer service.

links123 01-09-2014 10:59 PM

I had ordered a few precuts. I have no prob from their charms.

cathylynn 01-09-2014 11:21 PM

Just purchased 3 different charm packs from CT and love them. Unlike charms from JoAnn Fabrics, CT's charm packs all measured 5 inches square, making my disappearing 4 patch quilt go together quickly. I will definitely purchase more charm packs from Connecting Threads.

DOTTYMO 01-09-2014 11:47 PM

In my experience the cheaper the pre-cut the less accurate. The good makers are spot on. My worst experience was a cheap jelly roll and the stripes were worse than my first attempts at rotary cutting.

Mine too. Having bought over 50 Moda charm packs in the last few months, I'm very disappointed with the lack of consistency in the sizes of the squares and sometimes poor quality of the pinked edges.

Sometimes I'll have a perfect 40 in a pack and then a pack of the same variety will have some undersized squares.

Moonglow 01-10-2014 04:18 AM

I use Moda Charm packs often and haven't had a problem.

willferg 01-10-2014 07:15 AM

I have had no problems, other than one square once was too small, but it was an extra thrown in. The rest were perfect!

Yooper32 01-11-2014 04:12 AM

I have, over the years, ordered quite a few charm packs, mostly flannel, from CT and none were ever short.

Rose Marie 01-11-2014 05:52 AM

It is my favorite place to order from. Love the prices.
The new catalog has a red line of fabrics that Ive got to order.
No problems with anything Ive ordered from them.

LITTLEOLDME 01-11-2014 07:17 AM

never had a problem with anything I've ordered from them

Belfrybat 01-11-2014 07:47 AM

I just purchased several charm packs from Connecting threads in their after Christmas sale. Also FQs. The charms were a true 5" but did not have the serrated edge that Moda and other manufactures have. I don't have a problem with that, but thought I'd mention it. Two charms in one pack were creased, and when pressed ended up being slightly off square, but that was easily remedied. Since I paid less than $2.00 for each charm pack of 24, I was willing to accept a couple of wonky ones.

JanineH 01-11-2014 08:12 AM

Thanks for all your responses. I am going to be placing an order from them soon. I want some of the new red collection but it is not available until the 14th. I will order then.

mjhaess 01-11-2014 08:33 AM

I have bought many of them and they have been perfect...I love Connecting Threads...

winia 01-11-2014 08:41 AM

I order fabric from Connecting Threads all the time, including charm packs, and have always been completely satisfied with everything I receive.

JanieH 01-11-2014 08:52 AM

I have ordered lots from Connecting Threads and love them! The charm packs have always been true to size.

quiltmom04 01-11-2014 10:20 AM

I have ordered several Moda charm packs from MSQC, and they are NOT a true 5". They can vary as much as almost 1/4". I got a little template that's supposed to work with the charm squares, and that was how I was aware it was not square. I still buy them if I like them, but use them knowing that they might not be accurate .

debbiemarie 01-11-2014 10:58 AM

I have bought a few, I always measure them and have done a bit of squaring up, but not much. They are pretty darn close. I haven't had any problems with making my squares, I usually have to touch up the squaring after I piece a block.

busy fingers 01-11-2014 12:03 PM

I have only ever used 1 charm pack and 1 layer cake pack and whilst they were cut correctly I just find it "off putting" with the way they have the "pinking" along the sides. But I think that is just me.

It is certainly saves so much time with having them pre-cut.

Mariposa 01-11-2014 12:09 PM

I have ordered their charm packs, and other cuts, and have had no issues. I sometimes even get an extra piece or two in the mix! :)

If anyone from Connecting Threads reads this board it must be a source of satisfaction to read all the (deserved) good comments about products and customer service. Add my vote - good company, good value.

Only one thing to make them even better and that's making their products available to overseas customers. I wrote to them about this and they hope one day to offer this service (now would be a great time :) ).

QUILTNMO 01-11-2014 06:34 PM
