50 Batik Fat Quarters....What to do?

I have collected 50 beautiful batik fat quarters and I really need to make use of them.

Any favourite fat quarter patterns that would be especially nice in batiks?

Show and tell pics are welcome, too!

I have never had 50 batik fat quaters, but I would do something that has a stain glass look with a black background, even a traditional pattern. I once saw a Jewel Box made with batiks and black. It was beautiful!

Here re a few freebies from south seas imports.

You could google bali fabrics or tonga treats and see what they have.

Also, BQ quilts would be a good choice.

What size quilt are you planning to make, 50 fat quarters is a lot! In order from top to bottom, all batiks:

1: Patio by Happy Zombies
2: Boomerang by Jaybird Quilts
3: Double Slice by Missouri Star (free)
4: Phoebes Flower Box by Missouri Star (free)

These are way below your pay grade and expertise, but fun and easy to do. I agree that a stained glass quilt would be wonderful with the right colors of Batiks, can’t wait to see what you decide!

Here's one that might work for your batik collection.
And to think ... MMM is almost a neighbour IRL of yours!

Fat Quarters

I just recently cut 43 fat quarters into a quilt called Sew Many Strips. It is a beautiful quilt, will post pictures when I have the top made. The pattern was in a magazine.

They should be beautiful in the double slice by Jenny Doan on MSQC. I love that pattern and have made it many times.

There are two batik quilts I made that used a lot of different fabrics.

This one is called Jewel Box

My favorite batik quilt was a variation on a Drunkard's Path.

Tallchick's photo of her first quilt brought to mind my favorite pattern that I plan to make soon for my son using batiks. This one is called Barneby's Bands. https://www.quiltingcompany.com/stor...igital-pattern

As I recall, the pattern uses yardage, but can easily be adapted to fat quarters. The fabrics used in this quilt are just fabulous. (in my opinion) If I could purchase them now, I would.

I'm making this pattern using different colored batiks and one in different blue batiks, both with white background. It's easy, fast and makes a big Wow quilt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h17ta6t_K-8

Here's one I did - it used 20 fat quarters I think, with each fabric rotated in different positions in three different blocks (20 fat quarters = 20 blocks - if that makes sense!)
The pattern was from Connecting Threads, in a kit.
Sorry it's sideways!

Wow on that boomerang quilt, Tallchick!

Have to agree with sewbizgirl on the boomerang quilt. That's stunning, Tallchick!

So many beautiful quilts.

What to do, what to do.....

Funny - I made that quilt when Easy Quilts featured it, right down to searching out the fabrics (Silvia's Garden). I agree - gorgeous fabrics! I do think some of them are still available if you search - Silvia Vassileva is the fabric designer.

That pattern would work for batiks, but keep in mind some of what looks like small piecing is actually a 10 or 12" square of fabric that has a multicolor grid design to it, giving the illusion of smaller pieces in different colors.

illinois 08-09-2019 04:36 AM

Wow! That factors out to more than 12 yards of fabric. You've got enough for more than one quilt! I liked the suggestion of the braid with black sashing but was going to suggest a bargello, if your colors would work together for one of those.

My favorite batik pattern is Gimme Diamonds by Four Paws Quilts.

I'm doing a Double Wedding Ring with 1895 hand painted batiks...it's a lot of work but it's going to beautiful..these fabrics have been discontinued...so when I bought them, I bought plenty..going to have lots of leftovers...probably enough for another quilt..the DWR is going to be a king size..finally making a quilt for myself...family has all they need right now...ha ha..

I say pick a neutral and make a quilt you have always wanted to make. It's my favorite way to sew.

RedGarnet222 08-09-2019 11:00 AM

Judy Niemeyer makes some fabulous pp designs for batik fabrics.
