Oh my heck I am not having a good day at all...I want to make a table topper and it asks the strips to be cut into 60* sections, in the end it makes a octagon ?? like above !!!

Does the * stand for degree? If so it sounds like a perfect triangle where all of it's angles are 60 degrees and all the sides are the same length. Putting 6 of those together will make a hex.

Try applying a piece of colored tape along the 60 degree line on your ruler, that way you can identify it easily.
Hope this helps.

Well what ever my little table topper is,i know it was a paper pieced square and i cut off the corners at a 45 degree angle. Then i just put on the two boarders.
Could you tell us where we can see the pattern?

Yep 60 degrees! That's a neat pattern.

Cut out the shape you want on a piece of paper and then tape the paper to the ruler.
